Description
Uh, it took me quite some time to finally do this, right? I was asked to do a tut for my keyblades for quite some time, but never really got to do it. I didn't take many photo when I was doing my keyblades, but I hope it will help you anyways. Please remember, English isn't my native language and I don't know the technical terms and had to use a dictionary for them, so please tell me if I mistranslated anything >.<
Thank you <3
Next time, I'll do a bracelet that works like the one's almost all the Magi characters wear.
Thanks for reading and looking <3

Hi! First of all I must say that I'm SO envious of your keyblades, they're perfect x3
But I would like to ask if there are other materials that I can use instead of wood for the base of the keyblade, like some kind of thick craft foam maybe (?)
And thanks again for sharing this tutorialΒ

Thank you very much ^^ I am glad you like them.
Actually, I dunno if it works with other material than wood, since I never tried it. Maybe you should try if you can use modelling clay on the base material of your choice first ^^ Good luck with it <3

Ah so I actually wanted to know if you ever used air dry clay over expanding foam? I was thinking about using expanding foam, carve it out, put paper mache(maybe) and just cover it with air dry clay for a smoother surface o-oΒ

I never did, sorry. I only used it on wood and paper mache, which worked fine for me ^^

I'm going as Roxas for a convention next year, and I need to make Oathkeeper and Oblivion, otherwise I pay $400 each. And I'm not paying that xP So I have to ask, how did you make your Oathkeeper? Same as process as Oblivion?
Honestly your keyblades are beautiful!

chibinis-chan In reply to Nyra-chan [2014-12-22 07:23:45 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much ^.^ I am glad you like them.
Basically I used the same process for Oathkeeper. Of course you can skip the part where I added the chain and you have to be careful about where to add clay and where not to get the layers nicely, but that's it ^^
woodbase - sanding - modelling clay- more sanding - primer - color - varnish
For the keychain I simply plaided white ribbon, painted it and connected it with wire to the keyblade and the paopu once it was dry ^^

Any kind of air drying modeling clay should work. I used efaplast light, but I dunno if you can get it where you live.

Oops, I meant to ask how thick the wood was, that would be helpful.

oh, I don't remember and I don't have the keyblade with me. Either 0,8 cm or 1cm. But I guess it all depends on personal preference and how durable your wood is.

Fantastic tutorial, thanks for sharing the info. I wouldn't have thought you could trust the modelling clay to grip to the wooden base, so that's good to know it does! I look forward to having a go at something along these lines in the future.

Well, for me it works out perfectly, but that might be different for other types of modelling clay .<

I can't, sorry. I didn't take pictures when making it, so this tutorial is all I can offer. it works the same way. Get a woodbase (either do it yourself of have it done by someone else), than apply modelling clay, sanding and coloring. It's more or less the same ^^

looks really cool and I would give that a go but I would rather give modeling in MMD when I figure out how to. If I could do that in real life I would love it.

It's not difficult if you have someone who helps you with the wood base ^^ It's just very time consuming ^^'' I can't do a 3D model even if I would.

yeah.... I know, We charge too much sometimes, well... in my case is cuz I use a professional painting system, so... the paints, primers and clears are in other price range. and yes, I follow her as well, you two are amazing! keep up the good work, I am more intrigued now that I know you make props :3
π: 0 β©: 1
chibinis-chan In reply to GS-PROPS [2012-12-17 21:43:01 +0000 UTC]
Actually I don't think it's too much. If you want something look good (and your props look VERY good), you have to pay for it. I once did wig commissions myself and I know how much work it is and all that stuff, therefore I can understand why props are that expensive. I always try to get my stuff done myself, because I am able to do it so that I am satisfied with it ^^ It's not perfect, but it's okay ^^
At the moment I am a little scared. Arulithia and I plan on doing Gold Saints from Saint Seiya and I never did armor before... XD Wish me luck ^^

Really? I never would have thought that!
Actually I only know the Lost Canvas anime, because I didn't like the drawings of the old series ^^'''
Arulithia wants to do Pisces Albafica and Sagittarius Sisyphos. I want to do Aries Shion. He's Just to awesome. I also had to watch the hades OVA chapters where Shion appeared just because of him XD
Sadly, I don't know when we'll be able to do that. I am looking forward to seeing your Hades~
