Description
Here is a Runescape fanart that I am submitting for the July gallery. Wish me well! The subject is based on some of the quests in the game's area called Rellekka. Some items in the picture include the Helm of Neitiznot, a Seal of Passage, Fremennik sea boots, and an enchanted Lyre. Of less relativity is her Bandos armor and Leaf-bladed sword (for slaying Turoths in the Rellekka slayer caves?)
It occurred to me midway through this that it was very similar in composition to my other piece, "Guardian of Skye ." I guess I just have a thing for sitting by large bodies of water contemplatively during sunset.
Update: Seagulls are Unforgotted!

I made this for one of the monthly galleries, a year ago. If it's gotten elsewhere online, I suppose that's possible, but it hasn't to my knowledge.

Sure thing! I might log on at some point, though I've been off for a few months. I was planning to put membership on in a few days, so who knows! When I'm done playing Skyward Sword probably

I think she does, too. It's possible that I spent more time doing the background on this picture than actually working on her -- Unusual for me! lol!

It was a joy to do. I had sort of shunned away from contests in general for awhile and never thought I was even going to enter something for the RS gallery, but I was full of inspiration when I thought of the scene/setting (and Rellekka just happened to be the theme that month,) so I guess it paid off!

Wow, you did a really great job! I really like how you created the waves, and you did a good job with the reflection of light on the objects in the picture!

The waves were my favorite part! (I love choppy water.) It's funny, they're not really the subject of the painting, but even the subject is admiring them, gaha. Thank you!

I have not received it yet, but I'm sure it's on its way. I've ordered (and had gifts sent) from the UK before and they tend to take their sweet time getting here.
But if you would like, I'll let you know when it does. That should give you an estimate for how long it takes, in the future.

Thank you! The waves were one of those things that came out so well, I even surprised myself. (My backgrounds in general normally don't go into much detail.) I think it's just one of those things, though, where you'll put a lot of passion into something if you love it enough -- I LOVE choppy waves and endless expanses of sea. <3

very nice, at first glance I thought it was by someone else since the style was so similar, but good job! I would try to make the sunset more defined however.

Oh, I'm familiar with that one! That is a very nice compliment, then!
How do you think I should define the sunset more? Do you mean more detail in the clouds or different colors (more red?)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DaEliminator In reply to Chrishankhah [2011-06-18 03:57:56 +0000 UTC]
more detail in the clouds would definitely help. imo, I would try to to give it a little bit more bumps to make it "cloud-like"
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Chrishankhah In reply to DaEliminator [2011-06-18 04:49:03 +0000 UTC]
Ooh. I know what you mean! It's kind of funny. I'm farsighted, and so I often forget how detailed clouds can be.
But also, it was somewhat intentional; I think I was thinking of photography and how in a good photograph, the subject is in focus. A sunset is already a very bright and vivid scene and I was afraid that too much background detail would be a distraction.
I might play around with it a bit later and see if I can get some good, non-distracting cloud detail going. Thanks again for the advice!

It's great to see some art from you again! This one is really stunning, but I can't say much more than the previous commenters have already mentioned. It's really fantastic --I saw this one when you first submitted it, but failed to come up with a comment, I'm glad you throw some seagulls in there! Those three little shapes really help frame the image.

Chrishankhah In reply to Nlex [2011-06-16 17:17:55 +0000 UTC]
I thought so, too! It's interesting because I finished the picture initially when I was very tired, and I submitted it out of desperation to be finished with it. I finally got back to it to add more to the lighting (and play with some textures recommended by another deviant,) and nearly forgot the 'gulls again. Fortunately I was able to get them in there before I submitted! If Jagex thought to put them in Rellekka, I should too
Anyway, thank you so much for the kind comments!

Your skills are pretty sweet, and your picture is certainly eyecatching from even a distance. That takes talent for sure

If only you knew how many times someone seriously said something like that to me! XD (Though most people don't realize that their criticisms would require an entire repaint to fix...)
Anyway, thank you much! I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I haven't always been so great with digital art (a lot of my old stuff is still in my gallery here,) so it feels good that I can begin to ever so slightly resemble the artists I envied for so long.

haha, you are right, it does have certain similarities..but the idea of sitting by an ocean is just very nice, or lake anyway...thats why i love the sound updates in rs...it seeems as if you really were at the ocean now XD at least going by the ears..hach..
i see you love to use colours the amount of effort put into the light effects is great
although personaly i prefer to have a bit more texture in things. Still its great and so far the first good piccu i see for this month
you sure tugged in i wish you the most luck for the gallery ^^

Texture is something i'd like to figure out, yet. I was able to get some texture into the ocean, but if I tried to texture her clothing it would just seem flat.
I'm not exactly sure how to approach it, because with digital art it's not just something you do by hand (unless you're some kind of epic genius, haha.) I figure i need some good brushes, as overlaying a texture just won't do!
But getting brushes from dA is finnicky. Everyone wants credit if you use their brush and because I don't want to have to remember every brush I used in the course of my work, I haven't bothered. Chances are I just have to buy a good one. Do you have any suggestions on how I can start using textures?

hm..yah i am not good with normal cloths texture either +.+ but if i find a new texture challenging i usualy go look for tutorials to find out how to do them i find it really hard to make one picture with the same grade of realism..like..some things i can do very realistic others look veery simple..its rarely a good mix
the water came out great with those light plays on the surface. So yah i think that's cool
yes its all about brushes photoshop has a lot of good brushes erm....do you use photoshop? lol Do you know that if you click that little black arrow at the side of the pallet of brushes, there is a choice of different brushes? (like dry and wet and such) also you can customize your brushes yourself with that little pop up window (like there is a pallets or layers window and such)..and then there is this i use a lot:
[link]
^^
the only da brush thing i used was from that one person erm... [link]
she doesnt need credit which is great ^^ and its a very nice collection of brushes; i do need more, but they help tons as they are
