Description
The Raptor is a cross between a transport plane and a flying fortress, and serves as the EDF's mobile command. It is armed with a deadly array of missiles and pulse cannons, ablative radar absorbing armour, and space for any necessary aquatic or ground vehicles. It is equipped with a small slipstream drive which allows it to travel at Hypersonic speeds and a troop lift which allows it to quickly deploy crew and light vehicles onto the ground while hovering. It also has limited aquatic ability so it can launch from the EDF's undersea HQ.This was the first serious vehicle I ever designed back when I was 15. It was meant to be the villains ship from a Thunderbirds fan film I never quite ended up finishing. When Guy and I began creating EDF in 2006, I knew I had to use this design again.
Looking at it, it has all the hallmarks of been designed by a 15 year old, huge tail fin, massive wings etc. Almost like a hotrod Thunderbird 2 designed by Apple. Thats probably why I quite like it. Here is pretty much the original model, heavily cleaned up in photoshop and the original Microsoft paint textures updated a tad.
As we never finished the first EDF pilot and "Vanguard" it's only appearance to date is in "Into the Abyss". Its launch sequence is here [link] and a rather cool action sequence of it going head to head with a nuclear submarine: [link] ... Be kind we where 17 year olds

I adore this picture because I too grew up attempting to create a book based on Thunderbirds but viewed in a more present day reality where it was called S.W.O.R.D Supreme Worldwide Organisation for Rescue & Deterrent. The most magnificent craft in its operations was Swallow which was capable of transferring to the cloaked space carrier which it operated from, and had capabilities to travel to near planets!
It could very quickly deploy rescue equipment to anywhere in the world as a cloaked craft, and there was also a Sona Three advanced submarine which could do they same. The craft you designed would be of similar to my own concept and also sir Barnes Wallace swallow concept airliner craft.
Swords operation was well in advance of any technology known to earth military, and was funded by the Taurus computer which drew funds from today's elitists without them ever suspecting, as well as having the ability to ease drop in on any conversation on earth no matter how screened through Aphoris satellite technology, lynched and honed through its own industries empire called the Sinclair group!
But your picture as of the best I can envision Excellent concept Brett St. John

Love it! The back-story is a bit fantastic for my blood. But it looks cool and pretty realistic. Very similar to concepts I see from NASA. And I love a giant flying fortress.

Excellent, thought I could see a touch of Gerry Anderson as I saw this. The tails reminded me of the old FireFlash craft. But its using some modern BWB features too.

This is a quality piece of art! I can feel the power of this machine and its also elegant too!
Shame you did not pursue the series - I think it would be a belter!
We need some new ideas or something engaging - X-Factor, Britains Got Bollocks and such is tooooooooooooooooo much!!

I'll admit, I love of this kind of shot- aircraft flying in formation, on a dangerous mission, and about to do something awesome. I suppose it reminds me of war movies and the trench run in Star Wars, to the point where I actually get either the Dambusters March or the theme to 633 Squadron playing in my head.
So yeah, really great image. There's a great sense of action, and I think the design's pretty cool, too. It kind of reminds me of the Angels' Falcons from New Captain Scarlet. It's probably the tailfin.

This is pretty impressive. Are any of these aircraft based off of any real life examples?
