Sam, Frodo and Gollum traversing the Dead Marshes in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.Things go from bad to worse for the Fellowship (and then get worse again for these guys later on).

I love the colors in this. It's monochromatic, but doesn't feel dead or dull at all. It also makes the blue and orange stand out beautifully. Another great piece.

Thanks! I'm happy you like it. I'm trying to incorporate more of that into my work these days. If only I had that trick in the tool belt during college when the only two paint tubes I used were burnt sienna and cobalt blue (which makes glorious mud).

Haha yes, its weird. I didn't necessarily picture him as he was portrayed in the movie, but perhaps too nice here? That makes me happy that you think I did justice to the book, its been a favorite of mine as well since I was very young

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. I liked the movies, but they didn't fit with a lot of what I had imagined when I read the books, but thats always a problem when you have books turned into movies :b

You really capture the bleakness (is that a word?) of the marshes. I like how you left the picture mainly empty because it really emphasizes how small and alone they are.
