Description
This one was a treat as I'm a huge FF fan and particularly a Thing fan. Rendering the Thing is another story though as he can take a long time. No easy way to render that guy, but it's fun to play with the textures.Prismacolor and Copic markers, white paint and color pencil on Canson Mi - Tientes paper

Hehe, the Yancy St. gang has tormented Ben for decades so any time I can demolish their territory I can't resist.

I'd love to see your take on one of the classic pranks they used to send to Ben to taunt him. Such classic geek-nostalgia moments of FF lore. Only one I can readily remember offhand is them sending him a Thing doll in a dress but I'm sure there were plenty of others.

Awesome as usual. The textures are great and I love the play of the cool and warm. My only crit would be that because the Skrulls fist is the same texture as the Thing, with its positioning, it makes for a weird tangent, where Thing's arm looks like it is being sliced in two on first glance. It's still a kick ass piece though.

Argh, yes that tangent is killing me. It's weird how I don't notice most tangents until it's too late. I noticed it once the markers were laid down. I think I was hoping that the fire and the light from it would help seperate the two, but it doesn't quite work.
Thanks!

Man, how do you achieve so much depth with just a marker( and a few other supplies)?:

Those "few other supplies" are a big factor believe me. Just markers would be a very different piece hehe.

Yeah, what other tools do you use? I know you once said you used a white paint marker, or something like that. But what else?

ChristopherStevens In reply to Phobos-Romulus [2010-01-05 04:47:28 +0000 UTC]
Nah, no paint markers. I use a white watercolor called Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White and a brush. I also you a standard white Prismacolor color pencil. I'll use a Micron pen for small details at times too.

fantastic piece, this is very cool. how is it that the thing is strong enough to fight this guy but gets down played versus every other big hitter? i say ben's about due for an upgrade.

ChristopherStevens In reply to MARR-PHEOS [2010-01-05 04:31:07 +0000 UTC]
Well, I think SS is on the same level strength wise as Ben, but Ben was never really meant to be on say..the Hulk's level. But, on a cool level, he's better than just about everyone
