Description This one was a treat as I'm a huge FF fan and particularly a Thing fan. Rendering the Thing is another story though as he can take a long time. No easy way to render that guy, but it's fun to play with the textures.

the depth is really amazing! looks clean and smooth enough to be digital art, but has that unmistakable natural feel of traditional works.

Thanks..You may have! They're extremely versatile and fun to use. They're limited only by your own patience hehe.

oh, and also. Id love to see you shift into some natural media painting "perhaps oil"

I think you'd be great at it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChristopherStevens In reply to Alex0wens [2010-01-05 04:18:48 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, baby steps. I've played around with acrylics to not so great results. Oils..never touched but I would like to try them out. They're just so expensive and I rarely get the time to invest in new mediums properly.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alex0wens In reply to ChristopherStevens [2010-01-05 04:22:54 +0000 UTC]

Oils are my preference for natural painting. Acrylics dry too fast! Gouache is swell too. I managed to find some really decent prices on oil products via dickblick.com

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChristopherStevens In reply to Alex0wens [2010-01-05 04:51:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, acrylics are fast drying. Oils are the tried and true medium for painting. No doubt about it. They have the beautiful pigmentation and the rich texture that I love in painting, but with all the art I've done in my life, actual painting is the newest to me. My eye for color is horrendous and I'm not use to needing the patience it takes to paint the way I want to. I know I'll bite the bullet some day and really try my hand at oils. I'm an impasto lover, so it's gotta be oils LOL.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alex0wens In reply to ChristopherStevens [2010-01-05 05:09:28 +0000 UTC]

Im with ya man. oil is certainly at the top of my list. I feel you though with regard to developing the eye for color in natural light. Im pretty terrible with it, because I expect such decent results of myself on a tablet and a considerably smaller amount of time and when you take that knowledge to canvas everything seems to fall apart . Regardless, I have no doubt that you'll get it down quick, and I cant wait to see some paintings from you. Your marker renderings are epic to say the least.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChristopherStevens In reply to Alex0wens [2010-01-05 14:10:17 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure I can prove you wrong hehe. Oils will take some time. Traditional experience certainly translates to digital, but I don't know about vice versa. I guess you can answer that better than me since my traditional painting experience is so limited.
