Description The nearest and smallest Moon of a large Earth-like world has been inching ever closer each year, disaster is inevitable. Probably struck by a comet and knocked out of orbit, or maybe interfered with by two larger Moons nearby are likely reasons for such an even to happen...

On approach, anyone or anything viewing from the ground notices a growing disk blocking out the Sunlight, darkening skies, and magnetically-influenced aurora's and lightning appearing in the most unlikely areas, their flash of colour illuminating just what exactly is about to come crashing down. The ground shakes due to gravitational stress acted upon it, and storm cells in the atmosphere go haywire as they move above turbulent seas, their world will end before the main event even happens...the impact!

Well heres my successful entry to 's first artpack they have made ever since I was finally good enough to stand a chance lol.

Can you beleive that the "base" render for the storm clouds in the blue planet about to be hit was done in Vue? yep...clever use of terrains right there, thats all I will say ...who needs Terragen 2 for dramatic orbital renders?

Wallpapers of this and some other cool space-themed art can be found at TerraSpace's Moons pack ...I won't be putting WP's here, but print is available.

Lol have you ever seen Independence Day? Because for some reason, that's what this reminds me of. it's the lightning, really, that reminds me of it most, but still.

Awesome job, this thing is gorgeous.

I've seen parts of Independence day, but never sat through the whole thing at once, but there are quite a few grand disaster scenes in that movie, maybe thats why this reminded you of it, There were also lots of cool special effects too, just like the aurora's and lightning in this

Anonymonkey In reply to Chromattix [2008-07-08 08:15:54 +0000 UTC]

It's because of the blueish glowyness and the lightning, kinda like the alien's rays of light before they blow stuff up, lol. Haha but yeah, cool special effects and things like that... I love the way your clouds have depth, btw, looks awesome.

Thankyou, all those details took forever, oh, and there was good use of Vue in this too, the main blue planet started out as a render of a spectral atmosphere from high up before being heavily manipulated in Photoshop

Lol, well if you have Vue 6, then creating these clouds is within your range, but even the 3D rendered clouds needed hours of postwork to improve on them

Well, I can't really answer that question lol. I've been doing this for so long that I don't know what it would be like to not be able to do this...then again, I still get that same feeling when I see other artists even better again You also have skills I wouldn't mind having either...I just wouldn't be able to draw such realistic portraits and fan-art lol, especially traditionally

I'd love to see an Aurora too, but without having to freeze at the poles to see it ( or having to be crushed by a falling moon either lol ) but that ain't gonna happen, unless the Sun ejects a sudden burst of energy that reacts in the atmosphere, it's rare, but it's happened, and it causes aurora's to appear anywhere on Earth they hit...of course, sometimes technology fails during the event.

Your name IS on there. Actually every artist's name automatically appears, just hover your mouse over the slide show.

And it will tell you the name of it including the artist!,AND! Every picture you click on directs you to the artist that belongs to!

Now isn't THAT convenient, the thing is I was too tired to mention that on the site. I'm up at 6 am,what do expect. I'm tired...

I can add music too,but that means my guests won't be able to hear the Advance Wars: Days of Ruin music I added. *Whew* I'm tired already! *snore*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Raph1966 [2008-07-06 02:09:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, those colours are the result of Aurora's, they form when there is strong magnetic influence ( like at the poles of a planet ) but since there would be a massive disturbence in the air here, with that huge Moon coming in contact, well they might form around it like here

Raph1966 In reply to Chromattix [2008-07-06 03:23:45 +0000 UTC]

How in the world? o_O; Dude....is it just me or are you actually getting more and more progressive with your work? o_o;

Regardless, and I say you are getting better, this is da bomb right up in here. You gotta love a scenic satellite streaming back to earth, but no one else I know would be able to capture such subtle beauty and turn it into a full-blown masterpiece like you're able to. Wonderful stuff.

, as always because you earned it.

Chromattix In reply to Bowser81889 [2008-07-06 02:15:12 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou very much...Getting better at each one as I progress gets harder, and the differences are more subtle each time, since I have to do better than each previous one, which gets harder to top This one was a steep jump from the others, due to the help I recived from some very good artists in this feild

Thanks for faving again too

Bowser81889 In reply to Chromattix [2008-07-06 02:35:45 +0000 UTC]

Seriously, you can really notice the progression in the details and special effects you throw in there. All you gotta do is look for 'em, but it's pretty easy in your case. I really look up to you as an artist.

And as always, no prob dude.

Thanks, I'd love to work for a documentary or something about the universe, some are really good, but the effcts and animations of others are often done rather poorly and do do much to show how grand it all is. There have even bene times ( only in the past year or so ) where I think to myself "I can do better than that"

Oh well...they could have been rushed for time, this one scene took forever!

Chromattix In reply to infinessence [2008-07-07 00:08:05 +0000 UTC]

This one took a long time, I'd say no less than a total of 40 hours when added up. Nearly half of that time was spent on the clouds alone

FallenDrow In reply to ??? [2008-07-05 15:21:32 +0000 UTC]

This is phenomenal. In my eyes, the detail looks damn perfect. I also enjoyed looking at the stages this piece went through - it's amazing how the first 'finished' product can look nothing like the final version (been there myself).

This is definitely going into my faves.
