Description
Created for the Journey into Nyx set of Magic: The Gathering. The brief originally called for a bright light that was blinding the soldier but as I was sketching in the light rays it kind of looked like the skin was melting. Of course, I changed gears and went for the melting idea instead and fortunately my art director didn't hate me for it. Β ΒRelated content

I remember the flavour text. "In desperation,Β the soldier begged to Pyrax to cheat the gorgons gaze" this was a brilliant black cat.Β I might not remember all of the text correctly.Β But this is still perfect.Β

Yes, I think that's quite scary enough; nuclear explosion scary, but with more goo, and *very* convincing, for something I've never seen.Β Very impressive.

No I don't have any videos of the process but you can check out the Step-by-Steps folder in my gallery and that may give you an idea.

Dig the painterly look and concept in this one.

This was a compelling image, I wasn't aware it was for a game, but it appeared among some suggestions as I just logged in recently, and it interested me - you might say from a spiritual perspective - in that it does express something quite terrifying, yet possibly of one's own making (ie cicumstances)?
Β Certainly it resonates with some of the darker fears one may have, the impossible helplessness yet inevitability of the approaching doom.
Β Firgive me if I am being overly philosophical here, I haven't played Magic TG, but have heard of it.
Β But yeah, I think it's pretty awesome, in the true sense of the word.
