Description The female Allen's hummingbird backs her way out of a palm flower, about thirty feet above the ground in Marina Del Rey, California. She is not an easy capture, but I keep trying, with every variety of shutter, F stop and ISO. I hope to upload more of her.

We think she's pregnant. She built one nest, then another slightly higher up in the same tree. She was born last spring, so she's new at this. I have not seen a male, so she may be trying to attract one to mate with, if the fertilized eggs are not yet present. I do not know much about the species, but I am learning fairly quickly as I observe her. The nest is in a very protected location. I don't think you have the Allen's up there where you live, do you?
