I always feel disturbed how they smash skulls with these shoulder parts of the rifles. And then put the disgusting thing against their shoulder for shooting.
Gack. x_x

Also, why get out of the car? They could have rammed them again, or fired through the windows.

cluedog In reply to Saklad [2014-07-02 08:12:59 +0000 UTC]

The zombies here require a particularly special way of being disposed which simply running over them with a car won't do (with the exception of the one zombie that had its head run over).  Also, if I'm not mistaken, firing a shotgun outside of a car window with any level of precision is difficult, especially if it's a moving one.  I figured this family is not comprised of expert marksmen, so they had to get out of the car to whack the zombies.

Saklad In reply to cluedog [2014-07-02 11:49:24 +0000 UTC]

Wasn't the shotgun specifically developed to be fired out of cars? That is why it shoots many bullets with each blast, and why the word 'shotgun' also means the passenger seat of a car. The headshot point is valid, though.

tirusr In reply to Saklad [2014-07-02 12:55:41 +0000 UTC]

Shotguns predate the car. They go back to days of early black powder weapons, where most smooth bore weapons could fire shot as well as balls. Once we had rifled barrels and started using enclosed cased rounds, the shotgun became it's own weapon. Used by hunters of fowl and later favored by Calvery as a weapon. Also, that's put a lot of glass everywhere.... not safe for little kids!

Trivia, the game of 'shotgun' to claim the front seat supposedly came from the wild west. During a time of infamous roaming bandits robbing stage coaches, the person sitting next to the driver would normally be armed with a shotgun in case of bandits.

Upon looking it up, I must conclude you're absolutely correct. My mistake. However, it was commonly used for aiming out of moving vehicles, from carriages to cars. Either way, it definitely does not require precision to hit a target with one of these, due to the spread.

By the way, if you want to see the most ridiculous fowl hunting weapon, look up punt guns. Think of a shotgun that shoots a pound of buckshot with every discharge, and has a barrel so long it requires another person to prop it on their shoulders.

tirusr In reply to Saklad [2014-07-02 14:38:50 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they do work nicely for that purpose but no one wants broken glass in there car.

I am aware of these devices. I think the thinking process was like... "Bet you I can take out a whole flock in one shot" "Your on!"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saklad In reply to tirusr [2014-07-02 15:26:15 +0000 UTC]

They were apparently designed to counteract famine, as they could feed around 50 people with the results of a single shot.

tirusr In reply to Saklad [2014-07-02 23:15:54 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that sorta makes sense.... "We don't have enough food!" "Let's fire a bigger shotgun!" "Let's call it a punt gun!"

I kid. XP

Pretty sure the gas is far more valuable, especially since it is volatile and will not last more than a few weeks or months.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tirusr In reply to Saklad [2014-07-02 12:56:59 +0000 UTC]

Depends on where you are. Some gas stations can be operated manually. Other places there is probably enough abondoned cars, you could siphon or drain tanks for gas.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saklad In reply to tirusr [2014-07-02 13:03:54 +0000 UTC]

Gasoline gets most of it's value from being refined. After a relatively short period of time impurities render the gasoline practically useless for fuel, at which point you would have to somehow refine it again. Obviously, you aren't going to have access to a refinery no matter who you are, especially due to the amount of workers required.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tirusr In reply to Saklad [2014-07-02 14:40:33 +0000 UTC]

At that point ALL the gas would be bad, including what is in your vehicle.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saklad In reply to tirusr [2014-07-02 15:26:47 +0000 UTC]

Which is precisely my point. Saving gasoline becomes pointless eventually, so anyone who has a use for your gasoline cannot wait for someone with a better deal to give them some.

Saklad In reply to Saklad [2014-07-02 20:06:49 +0000 UTC]

This is assuming you are not in a heavily populated area with lots of cars, since you would probably be dead from zombies if you were.

I rather like hominy.  I like the way it sort of almost melts in your mouth.

It's more a programmer joke then a full song ^^

I've never tried it, except in homemade tortillas.
