Description
This was a kind of oddball one... Originally it was just gonna be this big boar's head centered in the middle with 3 tusks, but when I flipped the canvas upside-down to do a quick check a few minutes in, I pictured this weird little dragonmage kinda guy with 3 overgrown tusks coming out of his maw. I compressed all the sketchy layers except for the tusks down into one then did some weird transforms on the tusks to give it that odd jutting kind of look to it. Another layer set to normal and I sketched in the semblance of robes and hands, and then popping out its right eye more and sketching in hints of an off-set body, looking a bit to the left.

Colors were mostly flat gradients, duplicated then inverted and hue-adjusted, that's why it's pretty monochromatic; duplicating soft light layers and inverting them mutes the entire palette, but then adjusting the hue/saturation on one layer or the other can give you some interesting ranges of color pretty quickly. Made a couple quick layers of normal over everything to hint at some details and then, er, a layer of cloudy smoke to hide all the crimes below. A radial gradient of orange set to color dodge over the eye to help pop it out a bit and that brought the piece to about 29min.30sec.. I was getting distracted at this point, like I could feel that lack of focus, so I stopped it early because I was pretty sure I'd get lost noodling something and go over time.

When doing spitpaints I like to make sure I just get the core idea down, anything else I wanna add for embellishment I'll do later and maybe post it as a comment; I don't need to have the full illustration done in 30 minutes, for myself that's not what these exercises are all about.
