Antonio was a student at Magic Academy. He was an only child who did not get along with his parents very well. Because of this, he was always staying after school doing assignments and working on various projects. To an outsider, it looked like he was being extremely studious but the real reason was it gave him an excuse to spend more time away from his family. He desperately wanted something different than the status quo.

While doing some reading, Antonio discovered a spell capable of changing reality itself. It was considered too powerful for a student his age to cast, but with all the extra time he spent studying he felt he was ready for it. He signed up for some time in the magic lab so he could spend some time practicing the spell.

Antonio recited the spell for the first time and nothing happened. This was not surprising. He knew it would take practice. He cast the spell many times a day for many days before anything happened. Sparks appeared the next few times he cast it letting him know he was getting closer. Then there was a loud pop. It scared him but not enough to make him stop practicing.

Later that same day, Antonio opened up a portal. It was only for a few seconds but it was long enough to look through it and see another part of the world. He knew he needed some rest, but he was getting impatient. He decided if he created another portal he would run through it as quickly as possible.

The next day, Antonio did exactly that. He had not counted on the fact that the portal led to the middle of a country road. Cars were not on the road very often but he cast the spell specifically because he wanted something different. Antonio appeared right in front of a car and did not have time to get out of the way.

The man driving the car had his wife beside him. They were a childless couple. Both of them knew how to cast spells but they were unprepared for the student who appeared right in front of them. The man slammed on the brake but it was not enough. The student crashed to the ground below.

The couple ran out of the car and immediately cast healing spells on the student. They checked for breathing and a pulse and found both. Grateful they had not killed anyone, they waited for the student to regain consciousness.

"What is your name?" asked the man once the student's eyes opened.

"Antonia," she replied, grabbing her head.

"Why did you create a portal leading to the middle of the road?" scolded the man. "Don't you know that's dangerous?"

"I'm sorry," said Antonia. "I wanted to go through it as quickly as possible and did not look where I was going."

"You could have been seriously hurt!" added the woman. "Just be glad we found you when we did."

"We should take her to see a doctor," suggested the man. "Our spells may not be enough."

"Good idea," agreed the woman. "Get in the car!"

Antonia got in the car with her parents who took her to see a magical doctor. The doctor said she would be alright but she should probably wait a day or two before returning to school. Antonia agreed. She had been spending too much time studying and casting powerful spells she had no business casting. She needed to get some rest and spend some time with her family.

Her parents prepared a special dinner for her. Antonia was glad her parents cared about her so much and promised she would not use magic so recklessly again. Something seemed off about her situation but Antonia could not figure out what it was. After giving it some thought she decided that whatever it was it was not important. She would just enjoy her meal.
