Chihiro spent most of the year working on a secret program. Over the summer some of the students would be attending a virtual summer camp in order to improve their skills. The place was designed to look like Jabberwock Island. Attending would be his own class of '78, the class of '77, some elementary students, and a group who called themselves v3.

Chihiro knew he was just one of many people working on the program. He did not know everything about the program, yet without him it would not work properly. As he worked, an idea came to him. Since they were using virtual bodies anyway, he might as well give himself a female one.

The others working on the program thought Chihiro was a girl anyway so it would not take much to convince them. He just needed to make sure his female avatar looked as much like him as possible while still being female. His side project would require more time so he worked extra hard to make sure he had the time he needed. Even with his careful planning, there was a high chance they would discover he was a boy but the benefits seemed well worth the risks.

By summer, it was ready. Chihiro assured them the program was safe and they would have a good time in the virtual world. The others asked him many questions about it and Chihiro had to explain that despite actually working on the program he did not know everything there was to know about it. Perhaps this should have been a clue to the others that he could not guarantee the safety of the machine, but they were too excited about the virtual trip themselves to notice.

One by one the students connected themselves to the machine and entered the virtual world. Chihiro looked at his virtual female body and smiled. Thus far everything had gone according to plan.

When they were offered swimsuits, the boys were told to meet at the beach house and the girls were told to meet at the hotel lobby. Normally this would have created a huge problem for Chihiro. However, he could easily go to the hotel lobby and get his swimsuit just like all the girls had. It seemed too good to be true!

Something Chihiro should have realized was that Monokuma, although down, was not gone for good. He was looking for any weakness at all in the program. Chihiro, with his selfish desire to create a female body for himself without telling anyone else what he had done, had given Monokuma just the opportunity he needed.

While the students, including Chihiro, were enjoying their time on the beach, Monokuma discovered a way to take over the program and trap them inside. One by one the various safety features were either disabled or destroyed. Some of the rudimentary safety features remained in place protecting their virtual bodies and more importantly their real bodies, but it was only a matter of time before those features were disabled too.

Chihiro and the others had been on the beach for hours and had lost all track of time. It was only where the virtual sky started glitching that their thoughts returned to reality. Chihiro went over to a secret terminal to check on the program. It was there that his worst fears were confirmed.

In order to prevent complete disaster, maybe even loss of life, Chihiro would have to tell everyone who he was and what he had done so they could save the virtual summer camp from Monokuma. There was no time to wait for the right moment or even set the mood so he just told them. Immediately afterwards he was disconnected from the virtual world so he could correct the program and make sure Monokuma could cause no more damage.

Chihiro had no doubt that some of them literally wanted to kill him but that did not matter. He had to fix his mistake. Monokuma was confined to a smaller and smaller part of the program until he was forced to leave. Then they recreated the safety features. Then they added new ones to make sure nothing like that could ever happen again.

Despite everything, part of summer still remained and Chihiro was given a chance to rejoin his friends at the virtual summer camp. He may have been the one to cause the problem but he also had a major role in fixing it. Besides, some of the other students had done much worse. Chihiro considered just running away but he could not hide from his problems forever. Sooner or later he had to face them and that was what he did.

It was not easy but the others eventually forgave him. The computer hack made them far angrier than the gender deception which actually came as a surprise to him. Chihiro did not understand people that well and probably never would. The past could not be changed, only what came after it. With determination and effort, changing his path was exactly what he did.
