Richard was on an African safari. For him it was the trip of a lifetime because he could not afford to go more than once. He was hoping to get some photos of the wildlife there like rhinos, lions, and elephants. He could look at the pictures for the rest of his life and remember the trip.

Even the most well thought out plans can be ruined by a single mistake. Richard forgot to change his camera and he had no way of recharging it in the middle of the safari. A strange woman was with him and noticed he was having trouble with his camera. She offered him her camera but warned him it was magical and therefore unpredictable. Richard just took the camera. He was grateful to have something to use to take pictures. The warnings did not concern him, at least back then.

Things went more or less as expected until Richard spotted a dazzle of zebras. They were called dazzle because of the dazzling effect they created when they all ran at once. He was not disappointed. The safari group followed them. Soon the zebras stopped for water. This was his chance.

Richard zoomed in on a single zebra and took her picture. Instantly the changes began. It was like Richard's old appearance and that of the zebra merged together. Because the zebra was female, Richard also became female. The name Richard faded from his, or her, mind and was replaced by the name Rina. She also became younger because the zebra was younger.

Black and white stripes appeared all over Rina's body. Even her clothing turned black and white except for her blue shirt which remained the same. Her pants became a black and white shirt, her shoes became black and white boots, and black and white fur appeared all over her legs. Zebra-like ears grew out of her head and her black and white hair grew all the way down to her knees. Strangely under the circumstances, her hands and face remained human-like in appearance.

Rina felt compelled to run so she did. She discovered she could run really fast. The only person in the safari group who noticed her transformation was the woman who gave her the camera. Not knowing what else to do

"You are free to run wild," she explained, answering the question that had yet to be asked. "You should be able to last a long time. If things do not work out for you, you can always return to civilization."

Rina just nodded. The problem with a zebragirl trying to return to civilization did not concern her. She just wanted to run. She ran all over the place and soon had a mental map of the place. It would be easy for her to find food and shelter. It would also be easy for her to interact with various species of animals and even people. The safari was a regular occurence.

Despite her human-like appearance, when the people looked at Rina they just saw a zebra. Rina did not know what they saw nor did she want to know. She was happy to remain undisturbed. It had indeed been the trip of a lifetime.
