Description Her employer was monologuing again, something he tended to do when he wanted to make a point. Before him a pile of different tools and several weapons from alternate dimensions lay in a seemingly random heap, she knew otherwise. He had probably spent the better part of an hour arranging them to be astatically pleasing from their perspective, and accessible from his.

The variety was tasteful at least, and she recognized several of the more prominent devices, the hilt of a light saber, the curving shape of a zat nik tel, and the distinct form of a second generation phaser. Clearly her employer wanted to make a point.

Sitting across from them her current employer continued, picking up one piece of technology and rambling on about it for several minutes. Chancing a look to her side she looked up at the bear that had followed her in, Gus, huge for his species, or so she thought. She had not worked with a bear in close proximity before, but, for the last several weeks, at her employer’s insistence she had been trying to brief him on the dangers of multi-dimensional travel.

The task had been a daunting one, as it felt like she was dealing with a child who had a pension for stuffing forks into light sockets. And for the first twenty-four hours sense she had been dispatched, she spent the lions share of her time wondering if she was going to die a horrible paradoxical death.

Or, cause a dimensional breach, and implode a universe, the implications behind that were – unpleasant to think about. The paperwork would be a killer.

A dart flew past her with an angry swish, and for a second she wondered if he had caught her inattention and decided to take some corrective action. Following the darts path to the wall behind her she was relieved to see such was not the case.

The projectile had found it’s home in the photo of a wild haired man looming out of a large blue box. Over which was scrawled the word ‘Thief!’ and a date with a much finer penmanship. ‘Never forget.’ Sirse had wondered about that photo for some time, but had never brought it up, as it seemed to anger her employer greatly.

Returning her attention to the situation at hand, as the demonstration seemed to be wrapping up, and her mind kicked into high gear. As mortals tended to ramble, it was always an interesting game to try and rationalize what the end subject was, one she had become quite skilled at over her years of service.

Sirse’s eyes lit up, she could see where this was going, and did not like it, the bear behind her stood, apparently blissfully unaware, she envied him in that moment.

‘So’ Her employer went on, ‘I have a task for the two of you.’

With a casual demeanor, he slid a vanilla envelope over the table, and waited for her to retrieve it. Another warning flag reared itself in her mind. He was too calm, and there was a slight curl to the corner of his mouth, he was trying not to smile.

‘Everything you need to know is inside.’ His eyes were dancing, taking in a deep breath, Sirse took a step back – and ran into a shaggy carpet of fur. Taking her eyes off the being across the desk she shot a look up, when had he moved behind her?

Heavy paws came to rest on her shoulders, in a comforting gesture, had he somehow sensed her apprehension?

Before she could ponder the question further her employer extracted a small metal disk, she could visibly see the energy reverberating from it, her heart picked up a beat as her body tensed.

‘And off you go.’ Her employer said with almost casual dismissal, and with a flick of his wrist, the disk sailed across the table, and the world vanished in a flash of white energy.

For a terrible few heartbeats Sirse felt herself being drawn out of the room, the world dissolved around her in a seemingly random display of color and sound that assaulted her hears, even after she had pressed them firmly back. Behind her, Gus’s claws dug painfully into her shoulder and she wished she had a voice to cry out with.

As quickly as the distorted sensations had begun they again began to recede. The world began to take on familiar shapes that her mind could process and categorize, plants, foliage, trees… It took her electrified senses a second to sound off, and another second before she was able to process what where she was.

The world around her had vanished, the familiar office she visited upon completing an assignment was now replaced with lush jungle and an assortment of fallen trees.

Tropical, humid and with very pungent scents of thing she had not detected before.

Casting her gaze down to the folder in her hand she read the block letters, her hazel eyes widened, and she mentally let out a groan.

In very small font was written three words: Jurassic Park Operation.

.

C.S. Notes: Hello, and welcome to a five piece short story featuring the the small mute fox Sirse, and her current partner Gus. This was something I have always wanted to write a book about, but ran into several problems - one being that the story, would be to short to be anything other than a comic book. But, who didn't dream about the possibility of a second team being sent into Jurassic Park to retrieve that canister of shaving cream?

Well, there is a zodiac life raft down by the mainland, though it will take several hours to travel to the island.

Best of luck, and remember, the objective is to retrieve the shaving cream.

Lol! But, but work demands shaving, besides. Sirse will be making her way to its last known location.

Just be stealthy, avoid the center of the island, and be ready to climb a tree like our ancestors did at the sight of a Saber tooth cat.

Alas, if they were available I would send them in. As is, I have already sent Sirse into the field, and the timing of her meeting Amenii or Nera would cause undue complications.

All I request is that you try and keep her alive, she us quite small, and...mute.

But highly effects, and quite resourceful.

(Very good, I look forwards to being able to read more about her. -today is the first real day I am back on my feet so I am playing catch up.)

The foliage parts before you, not that dense this close to the shore.

You have just made the first twenty yards when the jungle becomes deathly quiet. Before you and to the right the foliage twitches and the blur of a creature disappearing into the undergrowth.

An eyebrow goes up, and that little notebook starts working furiously. With a bit of a snap, she thrust the note to you.

'In any war that you covered, did the enemy ever eat the opposition? Alive?'

There is a bit of a nervous shudder, that is what is on this island.

'I, I do not understand.'

Holding up a hand to prolong your next comment, she scribbles another note.

'You said C.S. sent you to help me? I am assuming you know the why we are here then?'

Sirse shakes her head ever so slightly, and her notebook flashes, rips, and passes.

'This is more than an island. This is Isla Nublar.'

Her little note pad curves in her hand as she scribbles more as fast as her paws allow.

'This is the location of the first theme park that has successfully created dinosaurs. There are twelve species on this island. Due to unforeseen issues, the park has broken down. And the animals are loose.'

She lets that sink in for a second, Hazel eyes fixed on you, trying to gauge your reaction.

'I have been tasked with retrieving- an - object of interest.'

The last note, she hold in her hand, very hesitantly she hands it over to you, her eyes, a mix of emotions.

'Will you help me?'

Relief washes over her face, as she writes her next note. 'Thank you, C.S. would not have sent you unless he foresaw some problem I would need help overcoming.'

Looking you over, her eyes settle on your pistol, and produces another hastily written note. 'Are you ex-military? Special services, genetic support annalist, maybe a Tracker or even a Ranger?'

Sirse apparently has the same thought, and scribbles frantically on her note pad.

'So...do you believe that dinosaurs share the same visual characteristics of amphibians - that they can only see things that move?'

Judging by the way Sirse is looking around she doesn't.

JackAxeWell In reply to Code-Shark [2017-05-11 16:04:18 +0000 UTC]

Looking in the direction of the noises, Sirse nods her approval. Pulling out her note pad, she frantically scribbles. 'I need to know were we are.'

To help clarify, she reaches into her note pad, and extracts a worn travel pamphlet, unfolding the paper is a simplistic rendition of what appears to be the island, area's of interest are marked with icons and their corresponding definitions on the side. Several of the icons are in the shapes of dinosaur sculls, some red others green. Three blue markings also decorate the map, with the points labeled: Visitor Center, Port, and Heliport.

Lines in different colors, some gray, others yellow, designate the roads and fences that run the across of the island.

Showing you the map, she points to one of the coastal bays, near the edge of the island, and scribbles a note.

'I think we're at the edge of the tyrannosaurus paddock.'

'Good.' As you read the note, she scrabbles up your leg little claws digging in painfully ans she situates herself into a piggy back position on your back. Hands free she scribbles another note. 'We need to make due west, it will take us out of the trex paddock and twards the canister.'

Code-Shark In reply to JackAxeWell [2017-05-31 21:58:37 +0000 UTC]

As you walk she scribbles in her note book and passes you each note as she finishes.

'I stay out of the way of the small and medium dinosaurs. If you pack yourself in with the larger herbivores you can get some safe sleep, with relative assurances that you won't get eaten. You have to get used to the smell, and... Well you understand.'

'As for C.S? Well, it's been nearly...two hundred and thirty six years, give or take. It's a long story, involving crossing over multiple dimensional worlds, and alternate time lines. That, and time passes very differently in the Never Never, the fey world, you call them fairies, but don't say that in their presence. It would similar to calling you an ape. Just they are more likely to rip your head off for that insult-'

Pushing past a particularly nasty bunch of brush you find yourself at the edge of an open grassy field. The waving stalks stand over your head and shift with the wind, on it a sick sweet odor lingers. Sirse tenses, her little claws dig sharply into you and she drops the note she was about to write. With a quick smack of your shoulder she points to a slight depression about fifty yards forwards, her meaning clear.

Danger.
