Description Her employer was monologuing again, something he tended to do when he wanted to make a point. Before him a pile of different tools and several weapons from alternate dimensions lay in a seemingly random heap, she knew otherwise. He had probably spent the better part of an hour arranging them to be astatically pleasing from their perspective, and accessible from his.

The variety was tasteful at least, and she recognized several of the more prominent devices, the hilt of a light saber, the curving shape of a zat nik tel, and the distinct form of a second generation phaser. Clearly her employer wanted to make a point.

Sitting across from them her current employer continued, picking up one piece of technology and rambling on about it for several minutes. Chancing a look to her side she looked up at the bear that had followed her in, Gus, huge for his species, or so she thought. She had not worked with a bear in close proximity before, but, for the last several weeks, at her employer’s insistence she had been trying to brief him on the dangers of multi-dimensional travel.

The task had been a daunting one, as it felt like she was dealing with a child who had a pension for stuffing forks into light sockets. And for the first twenty-four hours sense she had been dispatched, she spent the lions share of her time wondering if she was going to die a horrible paradoxical death.

Or, cause a dimensional breach, and implode a universe, the implications behind that were – unpleasant to think about. The paperwork would be a killer.

A dart flew past her with an angry swish, and for a second she wondered if he had caught her inattention and decided to take some corrective action. Following the darts path to the wall behind her she was relieved to see such was not the case.

The projectile had found it’s home in the photo of a wild haired man looming out of a large blue box. Over which was scrawled the word ‘Thief!’ and a date with a much finer penmanship. ‘Never forget.’ Sirse had wondered about that photo for some time, but had never brought it up, as it seemed to anger her employer greatly.

Returning her attention to the situation at hand, as the demonstration seemed to be wrapping up, and her mind kicked into high gear. As mortals tended to ramble, it was always an interesting game to try and rationalize what the end subject was, one she had become quite skilled at over her years of service.

Sirse’s eyes lit up, she could see where this was going, and did not like it, the bear behind her stood, apparently blissfully unaware, she envied him in that moment.

‘So’ Her employer went on, ‘I have a task for the two of you.’

With a casual demeanor, he slid a vanilla envelope over the table, and waited for her to retrieve it. Another warning flag reared itself in her mind. He was too calm, and there was a slight curl to the corner of his mouth, he was trying not to smile.

‘Everything you need to know is inside.’ His eyes were dancing, taking in a deep breath, Sirse took a step back – and ran into a shaggy carpet of fur. Taking her eyes off the being across the desk she shot a look up, when had he moved behind her?

Heavy paws came to rest on her shoulders, in a comforting gesture, had he somehow sensed her apprehension?

Before she could ponder the question further her employer extracted a small metal disk, she could visibly see the energy reverberating from it, her heart picked up a beat as her body tensed.

‘And off you go.’ Her employer said with almost casual dismissal, and with a flick of his wrist, the disk sailed across the table, and the world vanished in a flash of white energy.

For a terrible few heartbeats Sirse felt herself being drawn out of the room, the world dissolved around her in a seemingly random display of color and sound that assaulted her hears, even after she had pressed them firmly back. Behind her, Gus’s claws dug painfully into her shoulder and she wished she had a voice to cry out with.

As quickly as the distorted sensations had begun they again began to recede. The world began to take on familiar shapes that her mind could process and categorize, plants, foliage, trees… It took her electrified senses a second to sound off, and another second before she was able to process what where she was.

The world around her had vanished, the familiar office she visited upon completing an assignment was now replaced with lush jungle and an assortment of fallen trees.

Tropical, humid and with very pungent scents of thing she had not detected before.

Casting her gaze down to the folder in her hand she read the block letters, her hazel eyes widened, and she mentally let out a groan.

In very small font was written three words: Jurassic Park Operation.

.

C.S. Notes: Hello, and welcome to a five piece short story featuring the the small mute fox Sirse, and her current partner Gus. This was something I have always wanted to write a book about, but ran into several problems - one being that the story, would be to short to be anything other than a comic book. But, who didn't dream about the possibility of a second team being sent into Jurassic Park to retrieve that canister of shaving cream?
