Once upon a time,
I was born into the world
My eyes could not open
To see the reality that would uncurl...

Raised like every little child had been
Loving all the smiles I was able to see
But when I was 6 someone came up to me
And said, "Here, take this. It's a gun."

If only the sun had shone
Would I have rejected the gun

Once upon a time,
I grew up with a gun.
My mother had died
And my fears had multiplied.
I wish I could go out and try to help
But for now I'll hold on to my weapon and wish for the best
And I must make sure these fears don't digest

Once upon a time,
That gun could have been helpful.
I could have fled
And given it to someone who could use it
Without being sinful.
If only the sun had shone
Would I have gone out and defend
What once was the life of an
Innocent young child.
