This really helped with steps but when I've used blur tool before to get a smooth shade it makes it look worse. Like it turns it into a plastic flat look. Is there a way to fix it or anything?

do you have all your colours on the same layer? Β Also it might have something to do with the colours you're using to shade / highlight with. Β Don't use blacks or whites. Β always use colours and then use modes such as multiply/shade Β or lumi+Shade / luminosity to get the effects you want.

Thanks! Β This helped so much. Β Mine doesn't look so great since I'm not really good with where the shading goes but I'm sure that will come with practice. Β

MaxiGraphix In reply to coffaefox [2016-04-10 16:32:27 +0000 UTC]

Because there are a lot of things you didn't show like layers etc...

Also, when i use lasso tool, it just moves around the whole magic area, it doesn't cut anything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

coffaefox In reply to MaxiGraphix [2016-04-10 23:43:07 +0000 UTC]

but I do show layers lol. Β they're in the side~ Β To the left~ Β The blue layer is the one that I'm currently on Β  doesn't matter too much anyways though because for shading, I only use one layer anyways Β one for shading, one for highlights

or at least that's how I did it here~

Started getting confused in the air brush part.. guess I won't know how to shade ._.

carifoo01 [2015-07-06 08:27:07 +0000 UTC]

This is so annoying ;-; my hand is extremely unsteady and the lasso is showing this.

I'm also really bad at determining where it needs shading and where it doesn't.

Ugh. ;-;

I think this has helped a bit, though. I WILL figure this out.

I think I got it! The blur tool REALLY helped fix the shakiness of the lasso. Thank you so much! But I don't understand how I would go about using multiple layers for this... hm.

Twigiehh [2015-02-08 09:46:36 +0000 UTC]

When im trying to cut the stuff, you know with the lasso tool, I take every thing, with it not just a little part

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

coffaefox In reply to Twigiehh [2015-02-08 21:21:20 +0000 UTC]

everything you lasso will be cut. Β You have to create a full circle with the tool or a full shape, otherwise it'll fill it in for you~

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Twigiehh In reply to coffaefox [2015-02-09 16:33:45 +0000 UTC]

yea, i know, but when i grab the tool and going to make a circle or something, i move everything when i touch it.... crazy i know

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

coffaefox In reply to Twigiehh [2015-02-09 21:31:35 +0000 UTC]

when you have what you want selected, you don't move it, you press ctrl+X. Β that's code for "cut"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Twigiehh In reply to coffaefox [2015-02-10 15:13:24 +0000 UTC]

But when Im going to make the circle or wahtever i will draw, when i going to make the thing.. the hole thing moveΒ  Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

coffaefox In reply to Twigiehh [2015-02-11 01:31:48 +0000 UTC]

then you aren't clicking on the lasso tool, you're clicking on the hand tool

MaxiGraphix In reply to coffaefox [2016-04-10 16:33:45 +0000 UTC]

Well i am clicking the lasso tool and i have the exact same problem

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

coffaefox In reply to MaxiGraphix [2016-04-10 23:41:10 +0000 UTC]

maybe you have the whole canvas selected? : ) try deselecting everything and then going for the lasso tool~

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Twigiehh In reply to coffaefox [2015-02-11 14:31:52 +0000 UTC]

I got what was wrong, I had never unslected the hole thing so... XD

new update new shade mode and light mode

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

coffaefox In reply to myfaceknowsbeta [2015-01-25 23:32:53 +0000 UTC]

those aren't updates. Those have always been there. Β if you want to shade somtehing or light something, yu have to make sure that it's both selected, as well as over the visible layer you want to shade/highlight. Β Then while on the layer with your shading/lighting, you go to mode- Shade or multiply to shade or to mode-screen or luminosity for highlights

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

myfaceknowsbeta [2015-01-25 22:41:23 +0000 UTC]

i tried it but in the mode part it didnt do anything.

Graystripe-64 [2014-12-12 10:06:08 +0000 UTC]

This had helped a lot, but it doesn't seem to work on my Sai Paint Tool.
The layers and multiplying them are confusing and when I use the lasso, it cuts everything and when I multiply them, nothing good happens, and shading doesn't do anything

Can you tell me where I did wrong?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

coffaefox In reply to Graystripe-64 [2014-12-12 20:55:07 +0000 UTC]

the lasso tool will cut everything you have selected so you have to be careful for what you select. Β As for layers and the modes, it's hard at first, but you can name your layers to make things more organized. Β Basically it's a game of just getting used to it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

coffaefox In reply to xCharminglyCrimsonx [2014-10-20 22:15:23 +0000 UTC]

use the fill tool and fill in the highlighted subject with the colour you want to shade with.
