Thank you!!!! Yes, this is a little Anna's hummingbird that spent a summer with us. We normally get ruby throated and Rufous Hummingbirds, but last summer we had this little Anna's and a red one that I still haven't been able to identify yet, nor could I get a picture of it. It was very nervous.Β

You're welcome.Β  Hummingbirds are my favorite bird.Β  I have gotten a couple of shots of them, but I have to sit for a good little while and be very patient!

I love them as well. We used to get plastic flowers that we could put nectar in, and you hold them in your mouth and they will drink out of it. We called them hummingbird kisses.Β

This is easy to, but it takes some time for them to get use to you sitting by the feeder. Well same with the mouth flower too.

Cool, will have to check it out.Β  Our neighbor's granddaughter could stand very still and they would light on her finger.Β  Never seen one do that before.

Yep they are very trusting, as long as you don't startle them. I had a friend that would feed them out of his hand. He sneezed and they didn't come back for a week!Β

Oh no!Β  Poor babies.Β  Don't know why that reminded me of this, but..well...it did, so now you must suffer through reading about it. Hahahaha.Β  When my grandson was a baby (he's 3 now), we could sneeze or yawn (we yawn loudly, lol), and he would cry.Β  To this day, he does not like loud noises.Β  Now, hasn't your life been enriched by reading that?Β

I love it when they do that.Β  It is so freakin' funny.Β  I would wait until one of mine would walk near my foot and move my foot and watch them do that.Β  My daughter always said it was mean of me, but it is so funny to watch.Β  Guess I have a bit of my Dad in me.

coldstares In reply to EmMelody [2017-01-19 00:34:19 +0000 UTC]

You would love them I am sure, you can even feed them by hand. I use to have a plastic flower that I would put in my mouth that I could put sugar water in. They would feed right between my eyes. Sometimes there wings would brush my cheeks.

Oh wow, really? That's amazing!! We get tame Robins over here sometimes - you could probably train them to hop on your hand after a while, but they're not always so tame... But wow! I definitely need to see a hummingbird one day!
