Description Length: 284 feet

Displacement: 930

Armament: x6 22inch torpedo tubes, x1 101mm deck gun, x1 20mm AA gun

Based off of the three dash two class , the dash three lowered the main deck gun off of the conning tower and onto the main hull as an effort to reduce the size of the conning tower and so make the submarine more difficult to identify at range. Combined with this was the addition of a watertight storage compartment for inflatable boats aft of the anti-aircraft position, a design feature which resulted especially from the Special Tasks Field Units and ODIIN expressing interest in submarine based infilitration and extraction operations. The three-dash-three thus represents a somewhat specialized submarine class, of which only one was built, but which has demonstrated that the Grecken  was exploring a wide variety of operational roles for its growing submarine fleet. Notably as an indication of their unique roll, the three-dash-three has operated in camoflauge since their launch in 1929, whereas the remainder of the submarine fleet has operated in peacetime colors.

Due to her recent construction, the 1929 loss of S-4 did not result in a re-assessment of the solitary three dash three; based closely off the other type three boats, her engineering and age were well within tolerance levels and her operation continued unhindered. Named Mace in 1930, she has probably not had an uneventful career.
