A remake of one of my earlier sprites, it's Crovan!
Crovan is a unique engine, being the only of its class built. He was built in 1921 as a GCR 10A, designed by John B. Robinson. He was named Sir William Pollit, after the GCR's fist General Manager. In 1923, the GCR was absorbed into the LNER, and he was numbered 5166, and re-classified as an A2/1.
In 1925, the NWR rented out No. 5166, as they needed an express engine. The LNER actually planned to sell Crovan to the NWR, due to him being non-standard. However, the NWR returned after the lease ended in 1926, as he was incredibly rude to the other engines, and even some staff. He continued to run the LNER as a main-line mixed traffic engine for many years, until World War 2.
In WW2, the WD sent him, Alfred, and Geoffrey back to the NWR for the war effort. Crovan was much better when he returned, and he earned his nickname of Crovan on Sodor. In 1941, when a North Western engine failed pulling an evacuation train from Crovan's Gate, 5166 pulled the train and saved over 100 people. He earned his nickname from where all the people he helped were from.
After the war, Crovan returned to the LNER, and became BR No. 65166 upon nationalization in 1948. He was withdrawn in 1968, and is now preserved with Pug at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and regularly visits Sodor on railtours to this day.
