Description the bridge in the magic forest, oil on canvas, 80x80 cm, june 2013

When I look at the painting now one week after I finished it, I see so many flaws and mistakes. Some of them are caused by the fact, that I had to make a break of a week between painting sessions, and painting over dried oil color sucks, atleast with the technique I was going for.
I still like this one quite a bit, I think it is one of my best paintings. Took me about 30 hours to complete, including all the preparation/studies I did for it.

You can see details and more here: [link]

Huge thanks to =ForestGirl for allowing me to use her amazing photomanipulation !

I hope you like it, comments are greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

This was actually one of my last oil paintings, now I am only working with watercolor because it is a lot less effort cleaning brushes, paper needs less space than canvases, etc...

You are very welcome! I have been doing watercolors for several years and love it and just started using Artist Grade supplies.
My son lives in Columbus, and for my birthday heΒ took me to Blicks in Short North.Β  It just happened to be their Anniversary...

Oh my! He said bye whatever you want...Like a kid in a candy store LOL. I got my 1st pad of Arches Rough Grain paper and some Koi watercolor paints- Artist Grade... Night and day Difference in my work. The paper is thick and really grabs the paint well and the colors are so rich you don't have to use much to do what you want.Β

That being said. I have a friend who gave me all her Oils and I have brushes. She used linseed oil that she gave me but I bought both kinds of walnut oils. Still wondering all about the cleaning. Have heard so much stuff on that. I kinda though Murphy's oil soap would do well then I heard its bad and then I heard... some guy even told me to use shampoo and conditioner!Β

That is the only thing that is holding me up. I have a couple of canvas boards and some gloves but ... I guess I kinda just stalled out on it for now. I'm open to ideas! Β

Sorry, kinda wrote a book here LOL Have a great day!

Aww this is so beautiful! It takes me back to beloved Childhood Stories, where the Heroes had to carefully select the safest Bridges to get to Freedom.
I kind of want to cry you think there are so many mistakes? I couldn't make it any better by any Artist!
My opinion, leave it alone and make more of this Land to add to it on new canvases. I would turn it into a collection.
But that's just my opinion, ever the Traditional one hehe.
Best Wishes to you x

Hey,
Sure there is space for improvement, for instance the bridge is not perfect : it looks too smooth maybe, as if it was brand new. I would imagine it older, more in ruins, with more defects... You could have added more details.
But I rather like the overall rendering of the painting. With the lighting and all the shades of greens, you managed to create a very interesting, soft and peaceful atmosphere. That's nice!

I think this is lovely. It has a primitive/Impressionistic vibe. It's not photo-realism, but it conveys a feeling of both magic and serenity. I think you should be proud of this. It's really wonderful.
