Description blue elephant 2, watercolor and ink pen on paper, 40x30 cm, april 2013

So here I experimented with watercolors combined with pens and with salt on wet watercolor. Conclusion: Looks good, will do more.

I absolutely love watercolour paintings so I may be a little biased during this critique but here goes! I believe you achieved the white spurts was applying extra water to your brush, this technique was used absolutely brilliantly and the white behind the elephant makes the elephant look heavenly. The misty green at the bottom was achieved greatly. This piece makes me feel like the elephant is not in his natural habitat, rather walking along a beach with crashing waves trying to bring the elephant down but it just can't. I would suggest trying somehow to removing the black lines I thing it subtracts from such a natural piece. There is something a little strange from the elephants anatomy though, it may be on a slope but the back doesn't usually look so low down. But do not think that I think any less of this piece I am very impressed by the watercolour in this piece.

Thank you for your critique! The white is achieved with grains of salt dropped on the wet watercolor!

This is a beautiful water painting!
My favorite aspect is how the water stains are used to create such a beautiful background.
It always surprises me when talented artist, such as yourself, are able to create such realistic designs with just a pen, some water, and paint!
I would suggest, however, altering the shape of the elephant. I do not know if the elephant's head is too large for the body, or if the body is just too wide for the elephant.
As well, it seems kind of odd for the elephant's feet to sink into the grass like that, unless it is foggy.
In the end, these are very minor issues, and would just add to your already wonderful artwork.

Thank you for your critique! Yes, the head looks big in comparison to the body, but look at the reference, I think I got it right? (reference is now linked correctly, sry for that). And about the feet - I did not pay attention to them at all, which I should not have done.

Very pretty
So, you obtained the white spots by using salt? It looks amazing! I have to try it someday!
