"M-maybe if we surrender and swear fealty to The Allegiance... she'll let us live!"

Those were the last words that Sara ever heard her friend Krystal utter. There was no talking her out of it; hope had long abandoned her. They struck like lightning... a full anti-rebel assault team of Allegiance forces. They were led by the Region Commander known as Zenith, along with two Elite Honor Guards. Out of all the leadership within The Allegiance, Zenith was by far the most cruel. Her assaults on rebel bases were always ruthless, stained with the blood of anyone that would oppose the government. By any measure, the once lively rebellion outpost was finished... Sara and Krystal were the only two left alive. Sara had only ever heard the stories of Zenith's conquests, but now she was actually experiencing it. Krystal's voice sounded hollow as she delivered the statement, as if even she didn't truly believe in her own words. Perhaps she was merely clinging onto any small chance of survival. Sara didn't have any chance to protest; her former second in command crawled out from behind cover on all fours, appearing as pitiful as a helpless animal before the Region Commander. She begged for her life without a shred of dignity, offering unconditional surrender and a promise to serve the Allegiance until death. Krystal was one of the bravest people Sara knew, yet she was on the ground completely breaking down and offering to help dismantle the rebel cause that she herself helped to build. The only response was what sounded like a dismissive chuckle from Zenith, followed by the sound of a single gunshot. Sara knew what had happened; she dared not peek. With any luck they had no clue she was there, she thought.

There was a brief period of silence.

"Sara... come out now and I'll make it quick. You have until the count of three." Zenith ordered.
