This is so beautiful. Well done.

How did you get the legs level on the ground?

Thanks. I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but I turn the stool upside down, mark one of the legs with the desired height and run a string line to the leg on the diagonal and use a string line level to get the right height I then do the same to the other legs. The string gives the exact line of where the legs should be cut.

Thanks so much for that. That's brilliant. I've never heard of a string line level before and that really helps me a lot because I'm making a three legged stool at the moment and I've almost cut the legs to stumps trying to get them level!!!!

Hopefully it wasn't meant to be a Bar Stool . A String Line Level is mainly used in Masonry & Landscape work. You run your string line across uneven ground and set your level on it to get the correct height for your foundation, but I like to use it for other things as well. Hope your project turns out well for you.

It started off as a bar stool, and now it's a leprechaun stool!!! No actually I'm going to use it as a little coffee table so it's supposed to be quite low anyway.

Oh very interesting. I remember seeing a documentary on how Renaissance masons built an even and perfect dome, and they had it marked out with a star shape in string. I thought it was just to make sure the circular shape of the dome was maintained, but I think it was probably used just as you've described to keep all sides level as well. Thanks so much for that most useful information.
