Sorry it's so big! It's about 6200 pixels tall. XD;;

This is easily one of the latest times I've ever submit anything. XD;;; Whups. Got school next week. Really should go to bed.

Well, I haven't made a tutorial in a long time, though I've had that tutorial-making bug for awhile. Don't know why. Just felt the mighty need to make some instructions. I like trying to do something different, you know? Inking/coloring tutorials seem like a dime-a-dozen. o_o; Not that that's a bad thing, but geez.
So, here's how you can make pretty good lightning and electrical effects in photoshop. I made the screenshots for it kind of quickly, but I used this same general idea to make the effects in this [ [link] ] picture, which I'm very proud of. :>

So, I hope that this makes sense and is helpful to at least someone. XD;;; I did the best I could, and there were some spots where I wasn't sure if I really needed a screenshot (or forgot to do one), so I hope it's not too confusing.
But! If there's something you're confused about, don't hesitate to aaaask~

Enjoy!

You're welcome! It's really old though and you could probably modify the techniques to make the lightning turn out better

Hmmmm. o_o What version of photoshop do you have?

Another way I can think of to do it would beeeee....Duplicate layers? So you make your single glowing line (which I'll call 1), do the wave thing to it, then duplicate that layer (which is 2). Go back to 1, change the opacity of it (and play around with blending modes, if you want), then go to 2, wave that one, make a duplicate of 2 (which is 3), change 2's opacity and set blending mode to screen, and repeat. o_o
I think it should work similarly?

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you!

I have Elements 3.0 (it may be too early for it)

@.@ wow..long explination, but sounds good at first glance--I'll have to try.

That's okay for taking so long; I am a very patient person.

HOW do you get the brush that way?! I can't figure it out!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Corvarrow In reply to EsstheMystic [2006-10-15 04:00:53 +0000 UTC]

What way? The part in the beginning where it's first drawn out? Photoshop's pressure sensative if you use a tablet, so it gets smaller when I let off of it. D: For the setting itself, it's the first type of brushes available, they're hard brushes. No airbrushing or anything.

This tutorial is great. I don't have a tablet but i am pretty decent with the pen tool. I might try this at some point. This tutorial was written well and was very descriptive (including how many sines or triangles you used was great) and very well illustrated.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Corvarrow In reply to Dei-Grepher [2006-08-20 00:12:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yea, a pen tool will probably work just as well; it's just important to get the ends on the branches to kinda taper out so you don't get fat lightning.
I thought it'd be a good idea to put the number of sines/triangles in because it's easy to overkill it, and once that happens, it just starts looking awful. Juuuust awful.
