That’s what he had learnt, and it sucked all sanity and calm out of him like a leech.

So quiet.

Too quiet.

Quiet is never calm. When it’s quiet, everyone is doing something, the same thing, all together, like parasites flocking a bloody wound. All clustered and close. Disgusting breathing in one another’s faces.
This always ensues because something bad had happened.
He was never allowed to be part of the action that didn’t have anything to do with him. He was always “in the way”, or “a dangerous pest”.

But what was it this time?
Maybe Sonic had made a runner, again.
Shadow didn’t blame him. “It’s shitty to be locked away all the time.”
Or maybe Maria had fallen ill.

That made his heart race. He was created entirely to help her get better. Why wasn’t he allowed to be there whenever she was sick?
Oh, that’s right.
He was the parasite. The pest.

He felt like a leech. An unsafe, disgusting, futile cure to something fatal.
That’s how they made him feel.

Sonic had told him something before. He remembered now. “They’re scared of you because you’re perfect.”
He was perfect.
He certainly didn’t feel perfect.

He wanted to get out and see... see what was wrong.
Maybe he could prove he was helpful.
No matter how perfect, no matter how scary.
The thought echoed through him again.
Silence was never peaceful.
It was scary. Scarier than perfect creatures, perhaps..?
