Description
Work-in-progress. Alllmooossst finished.This painting was originally a school project--a study of Albert Bierstadt's piece, "Sunrise on the Matterhorn" . It was a painting I did winter quarter, and I stopped working on it soon after the quarter ended. When I went to NYC with my classmates I saw the real painting at the Metropolitan Museum and was inspired to finish my study--but with some pony improvements.
It's not quite finished, but it will be by the end of the week. Just needs those last finishing touches... Some work on the trees and the atmosphere. Then it will be varnished and slipped into an elegant frame--look for it at Everfree Northwest!

Absolutely beautiful. The lighting in the clouds is the most amazing and awesome thing to me. Wonderful glow and warmth. Makes me really wish this beautiful place existed ponies or no (although magical talking ponies would be a definite plus).

So, 'Canterstadt' is probably a cross between 'Canterlot' and the name of the artist who painted the original version, 'Bierstadt'

That. Is. GORGEOUS! I love your uses of color and lighting. The way you layered the foreground, mid-ground, and background looks fantastic as well. Adding those last few details is going to really make this beautiful work of art shine!

This is wonderful! Looks just like the original painting!
Although the one thing that kind of bugs me is that the shadows on the castle seem a bit too dark, and they're even a bit darker than that of the Matterhorn. Although it is a WIP, so I should wait and see the finished product.
