Description
Another page of my Disqord headcanon. <3This one took a little longer, but it was worth it.
I feel I must add, that this graphic story is not really about romantic rejection being a catalyst for evil (though if you want it to be, then it can)... My point is that he was always evil. He was always meant to cause discord.
And even if it was only about romantic rejection, how does that make Celestia responsible? She's obligated to be with him so he won't become evil? How is that fair? Why should she put herself into a bad relationship? Are people (or ponies) obligated to sacrifice their happiness to satisfy the happiness of others?
Just a few things to think about...
Individuals are responsible for their own behavior and no one else's. If you take rejection badly, that's your fault. Everyone has a choice when it comes to their behavior... Rejection may be difficult, but allowing it to poison the rest of your life is worse.
Unlike Disqord here, seize the opportunity to strengthen yourself. Keep yourself busy with important things--be productive.
/philosophizing
One more page... Hopefully I can get it done by tomorrow night.

Never heard the term 'headcanon' before but, interesting term.
On what you said in the artist comments, they were fated to be that way-one to uphold order and law, the other chaos and discord. To keep the balance one must have both, just as they needed night and day, there needs to be order and chaos, they just happened to end up being the two who had to play those roles.

The art is as gorgeous as ever, and these lines:
"And even if it was only about romantic rejection, how does that make Celestia responsible? She's obligated to be with him so he won't become evil? How is that fair? Why should she put herself into a bad relationship? Are people (or ponies) obligated to sacrifice their happiness to satisfy the happiness of others? "
Remind me an awful lot of something from Lewis' novel The Great Divorce, about how some people would use their unhappiness to blackmail the whole universe if they could.

Wonderful! And I love how you added the faint text hidden in the background...it's almost as if it was his subconscious talking in the deep recesses of his psyche, while he consciously narrated in the forefront.

Great job. And I pretty much got everything you said in the authors note, Discord was always a monster, it didn't matter that he looks like one. The dragon and Manticore weren't evil, even if they looked monsterous. Discord was a sociopath, and still is. It just took a little push to make him realize he was evil.

Thanks! I really like your story here. You give him an "excuse" but that doesn't do anything to justify what he does and just shows he was pure evil from the get go.

I love it how you tell a Story this intense with only a few Words, carefully chosen and well placed.
Otherwise, i always thought, the rejection-thing in the First Panel (i wouldn't call it a "Comic"..) has been used to let the Audience identify with Discord right before the Moment he decides to be evil, cause thenceforth (my dictionary told me to use this word, feels uncommon...), i felt Sympathy for Discord, regardless of his evil Mind.

( I love the subtle text btw. It really makes you look at the picture. It's like it shows what he's really thinking. XD)

βI feel I must add, that this graphic story is not really about romantic rejection being a catalyst for evil (though if you want it to be, then it can)β¦β
I did think of it as a story about romantic rejection being a catalyst for evil, but I never saw it like that until you brought it up. lol
Overall I believe that the blames rests on both Celestia and Discord. They seemed immature in both body and mind at the start of your story. But that does make for one great story.
βIndividuals are responsible for their own behavior and no one else's.β
Sadly free will is a choice to most people. We are nothing more than slaves to the flesh and we canβt make a respectable action until we remember that. Other than that we are lost in the sea of discord.
βAre people (or ponies) obligated to sacrifice their happiness to satisfy the happiness of others?β
Sounds like the foundation of a βgoodβ relationship there. Ha-ha A mother is happy when her children are happy; she would be sad any other way. A loving spouse would choose to die in the place of their loved one. Talk about having love without sacrifice.
βMy point is that he was always evil. He was always meant to cause discord.β
You flip-flop. Philosophizing about free will and than go around leaving it up to fatalism. lol
What could have happen: Celestia reluctantly accepts Discordβs love. The relationship was more than rocky in the first century (or two) but the two soon grew to truly love each other. All is willβ¦ that is until one of Discordβs pranks causes the ire of the βlesserβ ponies and they somehow manage to harm or kill Celestia; maybe even turn her against Discord. Long story short: Then we have the Discord we know and love(-to-hate.)
...
Thank you for the beautiful story. Your headcanon is enjoyable.

CosmicUnicorn In reply to Psalms01 [2011-09-23 17:12:22 +0000 UTC]
Disqord is the spirit of disharmony, so yes... fatalism.
He may not have a choice, but audience certainly does.
As for it being both their fault... perhaps. But since the narrative is from him, we can't be sure he isn't lying... Has he lied before? If so, then perhaps Celestia is not as horrible as she seems.
And being young comes with it's tragedies, but the mistakes of the young should not condemn them for life.
As for being slaves to our flesh? Certainly not. To think in such a way diminishes your ability to seize your free will. If you work to balance your mind and your body, your emotions and your reasoning, then free will is mush more attainable.
Failure to keep both one's spirit in good health is still the fault of the individual.

That's some deep thinking there CrappyUnicorn and all of it is true. In the season 2 opener, Discord tries to rationalize his "fun" with the ponies versus him being turned to stone. Blaming the victims for his imprisonment.
This is awesome story telling. Very subtle in the text and very powerful in the imagery.

You make many valid points. However, the hilarious irony is that Discord is being productive. Even if he had gained Celestia's love, I doubt that he'd have stopped being a Paragon of Chaos. Awesome work.

This raises a lot of questions, such as why he was 'meant' to create discord, must you do what you were meant to do? Does your individual choice then mean nothing?
I also wonder about Discord, did he have a race like the Alicorns or was he a one-off, if he was, why weren't the princesses? Are the princesses that much more powerful than other alicorns? Why didn't alicorns give ponies the gift of immortality? How did they manage their population (Celestia has a mother and younger sister so they're evidently breeding.)
I personally figure love is what you make it, if you both work on a relationship, *any* two people may make love.

Oh my I think I'm somewhat responsible for that description
In my defense, I wasn't saying that's the case here, but the beginning of the story just reminded me of this often seen scenario and then I took my personal experience so I got drifted away from the actual story.
So yeah, from a point I was talking about RL/theoretical level rather than the story itself.
Sorry if I caused some misunderstandings there, I tend to drift away.
Now, as for the picture. Once again, it's awesome.
If I had to point out one thing though, then it would be those barely visible words. I think you have succeeded too well in trying to make them barely visible
Not sure if there would be a way to make them a bit more noticeable without ruining their purpose though.
Anyhow, great story ^-^

Oh no, not at all. I understood your other comment.
I just felt like adding it because there seems to be a lot of people who are assuming that's what its about because that's what they want to read into it, which is fine -everyone interprets art their own way. I just wanted to add some more of own thoughts in regard to this little story of mine... I think it's important to have many layers to think about, so it pleases me that everyone reads it differently.

Btw, you never mentioned EoH in the comic. I take you're going more in to concept vision of the events? Or, may be, the idea is that it is not the EoH which allowed Sisters to defeated him but more like the fact how strong the love and bounds between them were and the fact that he failed to cause discord in their relationship?

The romantic angle ... How about Discord couldn't get at Celestia directly, to hurt her as she "hurt" him, so he twisted Luna (just before he was imprisoned) as a way to get at her.

just a comment on her rejection of him, to me it appeared a flat out refusal, not a light rejection. True she shoudnt be with him if he isnt interested but such things should be handled with tact, in the 1st comic she looks out right disgusted as he confesses (not sure if this was your intent, but its how i read it), perhaps thats how he saw it, or perhaps she was young and a bitch, its hard to say.
