Speedpaint. One hour.
I used a screencap for reference and layout.
The point being that I want to practice laying down color, form, and brush strokes as fast as possible to compose a scene... with my time limit being an hour.
I still spent too much time noodling with details... I'm thinking I'll limit myself to one brush next time.

Sorta reminds me of My Little Pony...don't take that as an insult, though, it's definitely a better version of that.

Eventually I'll post some brushes... I'm still putting together a pony-themed brush pack. I don't know when I'll post it, so don't wait or hold your breath...
But until I do, I suggest learning how to make your own. Fiddle with the brush settings and teach yourself. Start with modifying the default brushes (many of mine are modified defaults), you can get some really neat effects if you play with the settings even on the default brushes.
You will learn, and gain, far more about custom and specialty brushes if you make some on your own.

Oh, I know how to make brushes, I've been using Photoshop for years, I've just never done much painting. I had tons of awesome brushes but my main and backup drives both died within days of each other a while back and I'm still trying to get the data recovered. All my brushes were on there, and I just haven't had the heart to restart my collection again.

I simply painted over a screencap (which I later deleted once I blocked in the basic shapes and angles), since my goal was to practice laying down color, form, and brush strokes as fast as possible.
So not having to worry about perspective and layout really hacks the time down.
