I’m Deena Jennifer Eames, but I’m mostly called D.J. And if we’re really close, you can call me Deej. I’m 19, gainfully employed and cozily ensconced (Word-A-Day!) in this middle-sized coastal California town.

Welcome to El Milagro, California! Also known as “Silicon Valley South” mainly due to this being the base of QuantUmYeah Inc., the biggest, newest rival to the house that Jobs built.

It’s a pretty town with a young vibe thanks to it also being home to the University of California at El Milagro. There’s plenty of concern from longtime residents that the influx of new money, crazy money, from the presence of QuantUmYeah will send property values into the stratosphere and the resultant gentrification will bleed the place of all of its historical charm and color.

That’s a fair worry, but, for now, I can still enjoy my early morning rides through Hernandez Park without weaving through crowds of joggers or tech nerds on recumbent bikes or Segways. Just dew on the grass and the sound of seagulls.
