So, once Quinton Nash took the hint, mumbled something about still wanting to get Triz’s “input” on a “special project” sometime soon, and wandered off to be sucked-up to by more willing employees, Triz couldn’t stop apologizing to me. She said she just needed to throw Nash “off my scent.”

I told her her scent was fine (and it is! Like lavender soap!), and that I understood and hoped it worked. No harm, no foul. But she still seemed mortified and awkward.

Which was perfect timing for Ree to show back up. I asked her how she liked meeting her “celeb crush” and she just said that Randee Rhyder is a self-absorbed void with empty eyes, visible pores, and the attention span of a puppy in a room full of squirrels (which sounds adorable, btw).

I would’ve replied, “No doy” but didn’t because of two reasons. One; I didn’t want to make Ree feel stupid and two; because it has been explained to me before that no one under the age of thirty-five uses that expression anymore.

And then things got weirdly, uncomfortably, er, uncomfortable in our little group for some reason. Our reprieve came just a bit later as Quinton made some parting speech and told his people to “party on in my stead” before heading back to QuantUmYeah tower and his waiting helicopter.

While everybody else scurried off to wish their magnanimous boss a fond farewell (Vince was practically sprinting), I tried to steer my girls towards something tasty.

“Look, I think that guy over there is making s’mores!”

There was some half-hearted enthusiasm and we made our way over. While I could understand Triz’s awkwardness, I had no idea what was up with Ree. This is a woman that almost never shuts up, has a snarky comment for every occasion AND can converse in ancient Sumerian, but she was practically mute.

It felt like the day had taken a weird turn somewhere ...but I had no idea how much weirder it was about to get.
