Description

Name: Binyeo Bae

Gender: Female

Age: 1000+
Race: Demon

Affiliation: Demon
Rank: AWOL

Weapon (if applicable): Hwandudaedo, single edged Korean sword. Hasn’t been summoned in many, many years
Personality:

Binyeo is a very maternal and protective woman, she cares for a child any age. Yet at the same time she’s a flirtatious and rather promiscuous lady, she acts coy but knows what she’s doing. She’s like the ultimate single mom, loves her kids unconditionally and works hard for them but at the same time she’s looking for a man. Sort of like a single mom just for the rest of time. She’s appears to be mature and dresses traditionally to reflect her age, but Binyeo likes to tease and pull pranks, playful and lighthearted. She’s content with life, wanting to live happily and in peace. She doesn’t desire material things, and even scolds her children for this. A minimalist and frugal woman, she strongly believes if it works then there’s no need to fix it. She makes her own clothes, food, furniture and at some points in history her own house. She’s fit for life, strong to farm and multiskilled to survive the age were technology didn’t exist. But she’s isn’t angry at the current technology or generation, and in fact is very excited to learn new things that this generation has discovered, despite how confused she gets. Due to her old age, Binyeo is very distant towards the conflict between angels and demons, and almost pessimistic towards this. She doesn’t take action unless she’s forced and even then she chooses a pacifist path. She’s experienced repeated history, and learned the hard way that some things don’t change. Binyeo isn’t loyal to her own kind, but she doesn’t pledge allegiance to angels either. She joins whichever side benefits her and her family the most. Despite being content and at peace, Binyeo still struggles with internal conflicts towards the passing of her loved ones, beauty, as well as guilt. She gives advice and words of support to anyone who needs them, and foreshadowing warnings.

Bio:

Despite Binyeo hiding her exact age, from context clues and other facts, one can piece together she was born after the formation of ancient Korea. Putting her age over a thousand years, meaning that there is a long story to be told. But to keep it more or less simple, lets begin with birth. Binyeo and her younger sister Cheopji was raised from birth to marry a respectable and rich man and bring her family into new riches and power. They were already affluent, noble with servants and an estate with land, but there was always more to gain. Binyeo was repeatedly taught to stay in her place as a woman, that women were passive and submissive and to improve her qualities as a bride. The one thing to Binyeo’s name was that she was a natural beauty, something many scholars at the time stressed as essential to a strong family structure. She never had a formal education, and instead taught how to serve her husband and subsequent children. She was confined to her home and treated with little affection or care due to the fact her birth mother being divorced for being ‘barren’ (unable to produce male heirs) after her sister’s birth. As a result, she took the responsibility of raising Cheopji herself and became dignified as well as cunning to both uphold her family’s name and to support her sister. She loved Cheopji deeply and taught her everything she knew, hoping that she would actually find happiness.

When Binyeo was considered an adult, the pressure to find a husband increased exponentially. This turned Binyeo into hating the prospect of marriage, hating the fate she was scripted to, hating that she had no choices for her own life. She taught herself how to read and write in secrecy as an act of rebellion in order to teach herself philosophy and arithmetic so that one day she could become her own person. But of course, there would be a day when Binyeo would fall in love. In an act of dissent against her father, she disguised herself and her sister to then show her the importance of attending in men’s politics. They snuck into a party of politicians and businessmen. Binyeo then saw a brilliant and ambitious man who was young but rising, with intelligent eyes and hunger in his face that lit a fire in Binyeo’s very core. He challenged her, treated her as an equal even when he saw through her disguise, and showed a passion she had never seen before. Perhaps this romance was fueled by the fact that this was the first time Binyeo had even seen a potential suitor in person. She would throw away her family to marry him, even if he was penniless with nothing to his family’s name. But when she was going to steal him away, she was pulled back by Cheop-ji. She could see in Cheop-ji’s blushing face and love filled gaze that she was just as helpless as she was. The joy, the overwhelming love-struck sighs, was something Binyeo couldn’t take away from her sister. She knew her sister like her own mind, the kindness and honesty and love she had paralleled no other. She could never betray her sister like this, even when she knew she could have the man she dream of. Introducing him to his sister and their little scheme, their marriage was set into stone in the moment they laid eyes on eachother, to Binyeo’s heartbreak.

It seemed like a few weeks before the dowry was sent and the marriage occurred and there wasn’t anymore time for Binyeo to stall her own marriage time. She was sent away to marry a wealthy slob who only treated her as a mere doll. Binyeo’s life then became to revolve around his family, and to take care of him, her in-laws, and eventually children. It was the most empty and gruelling experience Binyeo can still recall to this day, describing her first husband, “Stranger by day, by night a lover.” Treated almost like a slave by her mother in-law, she could do nothing but bite her tongue as well as anxiously wait for her sister’s letters describing her bliss. Cheopji was in a glowing marriage that was almost the beacon of societal expectations with brilliant children. She was everything Binyeo dreamed for, and all Binyeo could do was live vicariously through her in her dreams. Then, it came to the day Binyeo was thrown away by her husband, divorced just like her own mother. But for another reason, she just talked too much. All she ever seemed to do was bother her husband with ideas and questions as she delved deeper into studies no matter how much he tried to discipline her. Sent back to live with her family, she requested to live with her sister. Again, she was longing just to experience the taste of her happiness even from a distance. But when she arrived, she saw a much different reality and man. Her brother-in-law was no longer the intelligent and groundbreaking thinker, but a paranoid and selfish baron. A shell of the man she once loved, as well as her sister who confided in Binyeo repeatedly of her concerns. As a good sister, Binyeo confronted him, no longer caring of her place or her reputation because it was already tarnished as a divorced woman. That’s when he attempted to force himself on her, to which she immediately shut him down. Running out of the room, she tried to tell anyone who would listen to her of what happened but no one would believe her.

Instead, he spread the rumor like a drunkard to all of his friends that he had slept with her, and this little lie spread across the entire house and even town by the time Binyeo picked up on it. Binyeo tried to explain to her own sister what had happened, but even she refused to listen to her and as the head of the household, her brother-in-law decided what would happen to her. Binyeo was pinned as a temptress, the villain in every story, the whore who destroyed the home and for that she was stripped of her family name and cruelly whipped and beaten before being thrown out to the mountains. The most cruel action taken against her was when he took her horn, breaking it off painfully in order to forever stain her evil beauty.

Left in the mountains to die, Binyeo hid deep in the forest as she despaired over everything that had happened to her for nights. She knew that she would die. But anger boiled over, she hadn't done anything in her life to deserve any of this. Taking a stand in her broken state, Binyeo let anger and self-pity to guide her for centuries to come. She hid her scars of shame and went against every rule she was ever taught. She used anything to increase her beauty in order to control those who fit in her plan, controlling them and throwing them away when she moved on. Disguising herself as a human woman, man, anything that she needed. She took power away from those born with it and waged wars, destroyed families, even abandoning her own children. She treated her own children as pawns in her game, she was too focused on herself than anyone else. Despite all the riches she collected, and the fearsome power she earned, Binyeo still felt the empty hunger for more as she left and started lives left and right.

She engaged more and more into military as centuries passed, dress and acting as a man as she led armies against heaven. She wanted to be remembered in legacies and stories, she wanted her name to be feared and respected. She wanted to show her so called family what they threw away and to show the world what they tried to hide. Romance at this point was a completely foreign concept to her, it was nothing. But she still continued to marry to increase her own power and resources. When she married a high general and had a son, it softened her, the two becoming great allies and companions. Not romantic, but he became someone she would trust and rely on and he respected her greatly. Having his son for the sake of keeping normalcy, it was the first time she had no plan for this child. Binyeo had finally decided to become a mother, in order to shape this young man into a proud soldier and to pass down her proud reputation to someone. She never expected to grow so close, and expect so much from anyone else than what she proclaimed to be her first son. She loved him in a way and saw a great future for him, his father, and their country. They laid a siege against angels, her husband and son making such progress never heard before. Ofcourse, both would die in battle, sending Binyeo into new levels of despair. Her fighting spirit, cunning nature and well known calm hand was shattered. She gave up on the siege entirely and left immediately, ensuring it’s failure.

After her leave, Binyeo traveled the world as a way to cope and give herself time to relax before resuming her work. But as she journeyed through new lands and going through a spiritual quest to find her husband and son once more, her mind was opened up. Binyeo realized that she had shunned the most important aspects of her life in favor for vengene of people she hadn’t seen in centuries. While they had indeed wronged her, it was her that insisted on keeping the dagger they stuck into her heart. She only kept throwing herself into turmoil because of an internal suffering despite how much power and wealth she amassed.

With her changed perspective, she entered into the everyday person’s life to focus on growth and to become content with her life. Appreciating what she has and following (and tweaking) the philosophies she learned once, she found new happiness. She became a matron of orphans, raising and teaching them the new wisdom she learned as well as giving them a chance at a life where they’re loved, unlike the many people she left behind. A mother to many, she didn’t discriminate which species her children were and treated them with nothing but love, knowing that if she gave them a strong foundation, they could build great things on it. It was almost an atonement for what she had done, realizing that she was only subjecting others to her pain when she was young. She wanted to break the cycle of unhappiness that she perpetuated once, and give those who never chose a harsh life a warm home for once.

Traveling throughout Asia, she kept in mind of learning how to fight (mostly because it gave her a sense of empowerment) and trained vigilantly so that she could strengthen her body and mind. She switched through occupations and ways of living, even having a school to teach students how to become capable fighters. Eventually after years of living with humans, she could no longer deal with their issues and secluded herself into the mountains. She provided herself with all of her own basic needs and began to practice meditation and martial arts, keeping her passions close and some friends as well. A few decades later, she was faded from history as she continued to live how she chose and sometimes to meddling with the human village below. During this time, she met a foreign man named Livery Collar and wanting to chase a romantic interest for once, threw out logic and she chased this ambition. She left the land she knew to be with him, but this marriage quickly fell apart as Binyeo couldn’t conform to the sudden culture shift and new ways of thinking that clashed with the very basic beliefs she held. She tried to change for Livery Collar but as time went on, they only began to hate each other due to her growing unhappiness. Even when she had an infant son, she left the child for her own home after a fight with Livery Collar, refusing to change her whole identity for him. Traveling back to what she knows, she continued her life from where she left it.

But eventually, a young deranged demon boy named Boutonniere entered into her life, challenging her into a fight and Binyeo had easily won. Sensing great pain in the youth, she offered her hand in pity and the chance to train under her in order to ease his troubles. She meant for this to be temporary, maybe a few years but as she disciplined him and taught him the value of the world around him, she thought of him as a son. Despite him being a grown man, he was like a scared lost child and Binyeo gave him the love and support that a mother would. Teaching him compassion and the importance of self worth, the two lives in content peace. They eventually welcomed a new family member, a baby boy dying in the cold mountains. It was rare to see a baby just abandoned like this, especially a boy. Binyeo’s love for children urged her to take the baby, holding the cold infant in her arms, she found a bracelet left by someone caked in dirt. She named him after this clue of his past, taking Jingtailan into her home. Raising him since infancy, she trained both of her boys to her best efforts. Both boys loved Binyeo dearly, as she does to them, and to her relief, scared many unwanted suitors away. The three were inseparable and happy, even introducing themselves into the village.

But the occupation happened, and quickly the oppression was becoming terrifying. Binyeo even fled back into hell to avoid being prosecuted. Boutonniere stayed with Jingtailan to keep him and their home safe, and to this day Binyeo regrets not taking the two with her. It broke Boutonnière and her son was murdered by Interpol soldiers. She couldn’t even bury her own son to ensure his safety into the afterlife as well as closure for herself, she cried and mourned at only his picture. Jingtailan’s death caused Binyeo to become recluse as she grieved, her entire life was dedicated to him and for any parent, it was an unspeakable tragedy to outlive their own children. She didn’t smile, speak, and sometimes even eat, she lost the will to life for herself. All she could do was stay in Hell for the time being until the war ended. There would always be the empty void where Jingtailan would be but she knows that he would want her to continue on and help those who were abandoned like him. Spending time with friends and nature she eventually could manage her emotions and live with this tragedy, becoming easier as she thinks of him moving on. As the years passed and the world rapidly changing, she and her son needed to relearn how to become a part of society. Boutonniere left to find work in the West to keep her financially afloat. When she hears of Boutonniere’s plans for marriage as well as Jingtailan’s falling from heaven, she rushed over to the United States. She currently lives alone in a small apartment, often finish nightly company to keep her entertained. She works as a nurse for the disabled.
