Description

Name: Chaps McBuck
Gender: Male
Age: Approximately over 155 years old
Race: Demon
Affiliation: Demon
Rank: Private
Weapon: A very long Bullwhip (nearing 20 feet in length) named, “Bareback”.

Personality:
Chaps can be best described as an adrenaline junkie, he loves thrills and loves to get his blood pumping no matter how dangerous it might be. It’s one of the best feelings in the world to him, remind him that he’s alive in this eternity. He’s quite the enabler because of that, as he doesn’t respond to being hurt like a normal person by trying not to get hurt but instead chasing after it. Despite that, he has good humour and is rather friendly towards anyone. Extroverted, happy-go-lucky and laid back, Chaps makes friends and charms nearly anyone he meets. He’s also very helpful, going out of his way to carry heavy items someone can’t lift by themselves or doing labor intensive chores. Not only that but he’s very loving, giving endearing nicknames and compliments, close body contact and the like. Many have described him as an ideal boyfriend because of his overly affectionate nature and supportive attitude. But there’s a rather big set back, considering his moral code is so twisted. He lies, cheats, steals, willing to kill and sleep just fine at night. Because so many people like Chaps, he finds it easy to cut ties with people.

He has that attitude of you can walk off anything and refuses to be seen as weak. He has a reputation to keep and because of that he easily falls for peer pressure. He has a strong sense of pride and self confidence, proud of who he is and what makes him. He’s ready to fight anyone that insults him to prove his worth and has fought many drunkards. He has a vigilante view of justice and based laws on his own emotions. If he feels jilted by someone, he feels as though it’s his right that he’s allowed to do something bad to you. Having a small guilty conscience, it’s safe to say you don’t want to get too close to Chaps or he may break your heart. He’s not heartless but he can and will get the job done no matter the cost. Rough around the edges, he doesn’t care for the fancier sort and always prefers much more modest and simpler living. He likes getting his hands dirty and keeping a modest and honest way of living rather than the modern way of life today.

Bio: (TW: Murder, Cannibalism, Death)

Chaps was maybe the luckiest McBuck family member, considering he was the only survivor. When he was still human, he watched his entire family die one by one. Trekking the Oregon Trail was a death wish for the poor family trying their best to escape poverty in the cramped cities. The depression back home practically destroyed their farming prospects. The promise of Oregon our West was like a dream. But it seems it was only the dream they all died for. The first one to die was his mother, dying from an infection that spread from a wound. His sisters followed, one dying from dysentery, another drowning. His father was the last one to fall, killed by a deer charging at him. Alone out West in harsh conditions, Chaps has little chances of survival. While he would get an occasional helping hand and hitch a ride with other pioneers, no one really wanted to adopt nor take care of the teenage boy because they all thought he was more than old enough to look for himself. Not knowing what to do, Chaps kept on the trail that his family failed to finish. It was his only plan, his only mission in life. But he got more and more desperate as the months went on. Traveling by himself on foot without a horse or wagon was near suicide.

The only thing on his mind every night was surviving, and he took the mentality with open arms. He began robbing other pioneers for supplies, managing to steal a pistol and eventually getting a horse. But these petty crimes attracted attention and he eventually joined a gang to both survive and for protection against law enforcement- if there was any. Chaps was practically raised by outlaws in the wilderness, robbing anyone in the wide open countryside just to get by. Eventually ending up far north, the cold was bitter but nothing was worse than the hunger he felt on the wet cold mountain trails. While Chaps relies on his gang, he never thought of them as friends or family- they were forced together and worked together for the sake of surviving. Nothing more. So when the snow came and food became scarce, they all knew they would die. But Chaps only wanted to do one thing, a primal instinct burning deep inside his heart: to survive. He did what he had to, the hunger driving him insane as he shot each one of his gang members with his pistol and eating their flesh to survive. There were tales that said that spirits on that mountain top were to possess any human to taste the forbidden flesh of his fellow man. Of Course those were all folktales, but something did change in Chaps- this hunger. As he’s grown older he’s learned not to indulge too frequently but he was a young man, it was maddening.

Lost in the cold with sin dripping from his hands, he would’ve been dead if it weren’t for just a passing demon. She was just making her travels, a local sorceress on her daily hunt of ingredients when she came by a freezing and nearly animalistic young man. Wrapping him up in a blanket and giving him warm soup, she listened to his story and what he had done. Instead of being appalled, she was rather open to the sinner and consoled him. She offered him shelter and food in exchange that he would work around the house and help her, to which he eagerly agreed to. This eventually evolved to Chaps selling his soul to her for an apprenticeship under her to learn about magic. He spent years traveling with her, traveling further south and pushing into the new frontier and eventually ending up in the far west. Eventually his apprenticeship was finished and he was extremely skilled in the magic arts by the time they were done. They did marry for a few years, but mutually broke off the marriage and going their separate ways. He returned to his life of crime, but turning much more violent and serious than the petty stealing he’d done before. Becoming a contract killer and outlaw, he held bank heists, mercenary work and bounty hunting. He took any job that anyone was willing to pay him, no matter how life threatening and dangerous and got the job done 80% of the time.

While Chaps was having a grand ol’ time in the outlaw lifestyle, he was hiding the hunger growing inside of him. He never told anyone but he craved human flesh again. He was terrified of himself, afraid of this grotesque obsession overtaking him. With the little morality he had, he even knew that cannibalism was taking a step too far. Yet still, he couldn’t stop thinking about it at the back of his mind. He just locked it away inside his psyche, hoping it would just disappear. He relied on the adrenaline and the danger he threw himself in every day to distract him from the revolting creature he was becoming. This would take his life in the form of bull riding. Chaps had a terrible hobby of trying to stay on a bucking bull, and actually held a few records in some towns. But it eventually caught up to him, after being thrown off a bull- he was impaled and gored. Dying doing what he loves was too good of a death for the criminal some would say, but he was also alive for a few minutes in excruciating pain.

Sent to hell and becoming a demon, Chaps never did fall into rigid demon society. He immediately went rogue and continued on with his human life. But when he became a demon, he indulged in his cravings more often- resulting in a feared reputation and even folk stories about the brutality he inflicted. The magic apprenticeship served him better than he would ever think in the afterlife and his return to Earth, becoming a very successful bounty hunter and contract killer, a threat to both demons and angels. He’s hunted both immortals, as long as someone would pay him and has done mercenary work for angels for the right prices. Earning himself a hated reputation among demons as a traitor. The worst crime to demons were the contracts he made with humans. Chaps was so strong that he actually got quite bored fighting, he easily overpowered his opponent. Getting so bored, he decided one day to sign his powers away temporarily with a human returning him to basic demon powers. It was an odd contract, since he was giving up more than what they were getting but there was a catch. It was agreed while Chap’s magic and power would be sealed temporarily, that would only be until the human dies. At first, this worked just fine, Chaps got his trill of fighting again and the human did whatever they wanted for their mortal life. But then it grew darker as Chap’s appetite grew. He used to just “dispose” of the bodies from his work if the corpse wasn’t wanted, but then he wanted something more. His contracts became more and more fantastical but the price became they he would in turn eat up their lives. Sometimes this was slow transfer of life force through magic and other times it was more physical. This is what sickened a lot of his fellow demons, besides him being a cannibal in the first place.

But as he grew older and the times changed, he learned to both control himself and change. What with the Gold Rush, changing from agriculture to industry, Great Depression, wars upon wars, new states being added, he was a busy man! Chap’s life was pretty eventful but a clips note version of it being: crack open your American history textbook and go to the 1900s and he was probably there. He himself tried to change as little as possible, from his clothes, accent and way of living. Marriages came and went, affairs here and there, but nothing very much notable that changed him. He went from an outlaw life to ranching when towns became much more cluttered in the West, and even took up mining once Gold was found. Eventually building railroads, working in a factory, ironically a bank teller, and a slew of jobs throughout the years. But he never went back to Hell until now, both his reputation being a historical folk stories and a certain human that he contracted with. It was just a curiosity during his time working at a bar, coming across Fascinator when he was maybe 23. A few shots later, and a contract was made- the two now unable to remember exactly what it was for. Chaps wasn’t even planning to collect on his contract, he just coincidentally met Fascinator again 7 years later- and seeing that he bulked up, is considering on finally asking for Fascinators end of the contract. He joined Abbadon because he was practically a low ranked demon without a job, so he might as well. But he also just wanted to keep a close eye on what was basically his meal, after being told he couldn’t collect because it was against the policy.
