Description
Continuing my current mood for Dragons (and Wyverns in this case), here's my next baby. The Swidhelm's Skywyrm Bull [link] was posed in Poser and then imported into Vue for the rest of the scene.
One of Quadspinner's monuments [link] was used as the rock tower (several on top of one another to give it enough height) and for the bg, I sculpted a terrain, created the eco-system and then placed the scotts pine trees in the foreground.
DoF effect was performed in Photoshop with the Lens Blur filter using Vue's rendered z-map.

Excellent composition, and great pose work. This image must definitely be seen full size, that beast is awesome ! The Dof is really efficient, the dragon 'pops' litterally out of the screen !

Nothing is like a good dragon, and this is among the best I have seen in a long while.

Wow, I was expecting awesome, but not this much of it! I think I love it! The dragon is... oh, how can I describe this intelligently? It has a "fear me" quality, obviously, with him roaring at the viewer like that. And the holes in the wings actually make me a little timid to look at it, because they tell that he's no stranger to fights (at least that's the impression I'm getting) I'm half believing that it'll breath fire right into my face. Awesomesauce on an epic bun, in other words.
...I feel like I'm writing a critique. I don't want to critique; there's nothing here TO critique!

haha - Now there's a response I was hoping for!
This guy doesn't need fire when the sound of his roar is enough to make his prey freeze in fear!
Hopefully you'll also like my other dragons images to come!!! (although they'll be in a few weeks now)

Y'welcome!
I can't wait to see 'em. Actually, I can, but it might be a tad impatiently. But take your time; the Mona Lisa wasn't painted in a minute.

Thank you! It took many test renders to finally get it right. I see you're no stranger to retexturing yourself! (although this wasn't a proper re-texture in this image, just a bit of editing in Vue)

Ascynd In reply to CraigJohn [2011-08-27 19:49:18 +0000 UTC]
Ah I see, well that and the light give his scales a nice metallic effect all the same!

CraigJohn In reply to Ascynd [2011-08-27 20:34:34 +0000 UTC]
I wasn't getting the definition I wanted in the scales with the bump after I altered the specular value to make it more coppery - increasing the bump didn't work well enough. So I had to use the bump map image in the specular channel so it wouldn't shine in the recesses of his scales.
