Description
Well, this has been a long time coming, now hasn't it? For those unaware, I recently set up commissions in order to slow the massive flow of requests coming my way (that and I'm entirely too nice for my own good) and got a few right off the bat by a few determined individuals. While a few of them have been filled out - privately, because the original clients wished for their commissions to remain out of the public eye - this one has waited some five months before its completion. This was commissioned by the always lovely and always awesome . Now for those unaware, we got a glimpse of some of the aliens Ben would gain and later pass down to his son in the episode Ken 10 , where Ken expressed his disappointment in receiving several aliens in his own Omnitrix. Most of these aliens (sans Toepick and Atomix) were never given the honor of seeing the light of day and left many an artist to create their own interpretation of the alien.
Most people believe Sandbox to be an amorphous pile of sand - I myself share this same sentiment (pun not intended) - but some choose to envision them in a different way, including . . . that being said, I . . . kinda . . . accidentally lost the original description, so I hope I remembered enough to please you all!
With that out of the way, onto the facts!
Name: Sandbox
Species: Myrmedont
Homeworld: Glebecoleon
Powers/abilities: Sandbox has a pair of wings that allow him to fly swiftly through the air, granting them the ability to cross great distances in a short amount of time and execute sharp turns in midair. They also allow him to hover in place and strong enough to allow him to carry up to two people without sign of fatigue.
His exoskeleton is quite durable, allowing him to take multiple hits without signs of damage.
Sandbox is capable of expelling large amounts of sand ports in his claws through a secondary respiratory system. He is also able to spew sand from his mouth when necessary and can use this to slow down or trap opponents if he expels enough of it.
By rapidly flapping his wings and releasing a large amount of sand, he can also generate and control large sandstorms to attack lightweight enemies or blind and suppress heavyset opponents.
Myrmedonts have strong teeth and claws that can chew or cut through materials as tough as steel cables.
The pincers at the end of Sandbox's tail are very sharp and can be used to stab or slash at enemies. A single swing is strong enough to punch through walls with ease, though they are incapable of grabbing onto anything.
His eyes grants him near complete vision of his surroundings.
Myrmedonts have a pair of highly sensitive antennae that let them pick up on smells too dull for humans to smell. When pressed against the ground, they can pick up vibrations and tell how far away something is based on the vibrations given.
Thanks to his tough exoskeleton, Sandbox is resistant to scorching temperatures.
Weaknesses: While Sandbox's exoskeleton is fairly strong, his wings are quite fragile and can prevent him from flying if they are torn or damaged in any way. Water is a particular problem for him as well, as it not only prevents him from flying. Moreover, he is incapable of swimming due to the small surface area of his arms and legs and his inability for his claws to tread water.
He can get his pincers stuck in a wall or other surface he tries to stab if he hits them too hard.
Myrmedonts don't come with an endless supply of sand at their disposal and must continuously ingest large amounts of sand in order to 'reload'. He can swallow dirt and mud given its dry enough, but can't use it as effectively as sand.
Like crocodiles, the muscles that induce the closing of his claws are stronger than those that open them. This means that objects as strong as a bungee cord can prevent him from using his claws.
Despite being adept at reading vibrations, Myrmedonts can't tell what something is by vibrations alone, only how big, how many, and how far away they are.
Sandbox has a blind spot directly behind his head that can leave him open to attack, despite his near 360 degree vision.
While Myrmedonts are quite resistant to heat, the sand that they store inside their bodies isn't and if heated up to the right temperature, it will melt into glass and essentially cook them from the inside out if it doesn't solidify first. Victims then usually either die from lack of oxygen and bloodflow or massive internal bleeding.
Etymology: Sandbox gets his name from shallow depression of sand that children play in of the same name.
Trivia: The species is named after the Antlion Guard from the Half-Life franchise.
The specie's home world is a portmanteau of the word "glebe", a synonym for dirt or earth, and "Myrmecoleon", a mythical ant-lion hybrid written about in the 2nd century AD Physiologus , where animal descriptions were paired with Christian morals. The ant-lion as described was said to starve to death because of its dual nature – the lion nature of the father could only eat meat, but the ant half from the mother could only eat grain chaff, thus the offspring could not eat either and would starve.
Techadon Weapon Master Number 13 refers to Myrmedonts as Saharens.
Sandbox shares similarities to that of adult antlions - also known as antlion lacewings - and the Pokemon, Flygon.
Infant Myrmedonts look quite different than their parents, to the point where galactic biologists originally classified them as an entirely different species. They possess a massive pair of pincer-like jaws and prolifically dig massive, communal, underground burrows with other infant Myrmedonts, which they use to lure in and trap prey with the tantalizing smell of food. Adults and infants rarely encounter one another, as the moment the female as laid her eggs, they are buried and abandoned to develop on their own; once pupated and fully mature, they will leave the communal den behind and join a nearby swarm to repeat the cycle all over again.
The surface of Glebecoleon is a dry and arid wasteland pockmarked by sparse oases, some of which are actually filled with toxic chemicals bubbling up from beneath the ground than water. Once every five months however, the weather patterns change in such a way that the otherwise barren desert is transformed into a lush delta bursting at the seams with fresh water and food. The Myrmedonts take this time to build up their fat reserves for the coming drought and rapidly devour everything edible in sight. Only during this time of year will they forego their normally herbivorous diet and become omnivores in order to take advantage of every possible food source; infants otherwise maintain a strictly carnivorous diet until maturity.
Like moths, females release pheromones from the ring of fur around their necks in order to attract a mate. Likewise, the males will do the same and will only partner up with a female that is receptive to him and vice versa. On the off chance more than one partner is attracted, they will engage in a battle to the death.
Disclaimer: I do not own Ben 10.
Ben 10 is owned by Man of Action and Cartoon Network.
I do not own Sandbox. This is merely my interpretation.
Do not use this version of Sandbox without Shadow-DJ 's permission.

Although I like Sandbox better as a living humanoid made of sand then a sand dragonfly. It's more popular that concept around and fits around Kenny's statement as lame since he doesn't find a walking human sand awesome or useful.

While I agree, I do have to point the usefulness of being an amorphous pile of sand that perhaps a 10-year old probably wouldn't understand or know about until they experienced it themselves.
First off, you're virtually indestructible (probably why he was included) in a manner similar to Goop.
Second, if you pack enough of your shifting, sandy body together, it becomes incredibly hard and heavy; you ever get hit with a bag of sand? It hurts like you wouldn't believe.
Third, you're next to impossible to hit as you can easily divide and dodge any attacks coming your way. Really, you're only weakness would probably be large amounts of water and incredibly high temperatures, since the former makes if harder to hold yourself together and the latter would melt you into glass.

The best example is Sandman and it's possible Sandbox is based of Sandman. Marko is pretty unstoppable and Spidey won't had won if there wasn't any nearby water.
Still, an insect version of Sandbox is cool as it remove the weakness. However, I think it's lethal if his internal sand gets glassed.

While Sandbox's species are use to hot temperatures, since their planet is virtually a global desert, sand-izing their internal sand reserves would in fact prove harmful, if not lethal in most circumstances.

Yeah so Ben better not use him if he's on Pyros or a planet that's way too hot for its kind.
