Description
No, you aren't hallucinating. Yes, this is the ultra-rare, never-seen-before, nearly impossible, double post in one day. Funny how easy it is when you aren't stressing over quadratic formulas and turning fractions into double fractions (and no, I'm not making that up. For some, stupid reason that is a legit thing). But enough of my whining! This time around, we have another addition to the Nemetrix, specifically an addition to 's Ben 10 reboot project - the idea is that the original aliens aren't the only ones getting predatory counterparts. The new additions to the roster are getting in on the action, too!
So strap yourself right in and onto the facts!
Name: Vacpack
Species: Bahktreen Olqoswoid
Homeworld: Lenopa
Prey: Lenopan
Powers/abilities: Vacpack's main ability is that of water absoprtion. By creating a powerful vacuum with her trunk, she is able to extrat the water from their prey and store it in the elastic, dorsal sac upon her back, which can expand to roughly the size of a small car without difficulty. This easily renders the gelatinous, blobulous forms of the Lenopan stiff, brittle, and incapable of moving, making them easy prey. They can also remove the moisture from other mucilaginous species, such as Polymorphs, Protosts, and even Piscciss Volanns, due to their reliance on water to survive.
Utilizing the water they've absorbed from their prey and their powerful trunks, Bahktreen Olqoswoids can produce pressurized streams of water with a force stronger than that of a fire hose in order to defend themselves.
Bahktreen Olqoswoids are enormous animals, standing only a little bit shorter than an Earth giraffe at full height. Their large size grants them significant strength and enhanced durability, enough to break through a brick wall without any signs of pain or damage.
Vacpack possesses a prehensile, dexterous trunk like that of an elephant and is able to deftly pick up objects and creatures as small as Grey Matter, as well as lift and throw heavy objects, such as a truck.
Because of their long legs, Bahktreen Olqoswoids are able to run faster than both humans and Revonnahganders and are easily able to keep up with Kevin's car
Due to their diet of what is essentially dried mud and rock, Bahktreen Olqoswoids have an enhanced jaw strength capable of cleanly biting through a brick.
Weaknesses: Vacpack can trip if her long legs are tied up or if she trips over something close to the ground, such as the cable produced by Rook's Proto-Tool.
Vacpack is unable to absorb the moisture from organisms with water-tight skin, such as humans, Tetramands, Talpaedans, or Atrocians.
Ironically, Bahktreen Olqoswoids can be defeated if they absorb too much water or have enough water forced down their trunks by an Orishan, thus bloating their dorsal sacs to a point where they cant even stand up and are rendered immobile.
Etymology: Vacpack's name is based on the process of vacuum packing, which is a method packaging that removes the air from a package prior to sealing. This references Vacpack's vacuum-like suction and her ability to store the water she absorbs on her back.
Trivia: The first half of the species' name derives from its region of origin, which is named after the Bactrian camel. The second half is named after Al-Qaswa, a beloved, female Arabian camel that belonged to the prophet Muhammad in Islamic religion. In addition to being a part of many of the prophet's miracles, she reportedly starved herself to death after Muhammad had passed away.
The species' home world is named after its dominant species, the Lenopans.
Vacpack's working name was originally "Moisturatu", a combination of the word "moisture" and Nosferatu, the famous vampire from the 1928 movie of the same name.
Bahktreen Olqoswoids hail from the region of Bahktree on the planet of Lenopa, a region whose climate is typically hot and muggy. Swamps and marshflats cover most of the area's surfaces and the long legs of the Olqoswoids allow them to wade through the filth and muck without hinderance, which makes them incredibly deadly predators to the native Lenopans. When hunting, they will use their ability to suck the very moisture from one's body to incapacitate their prey. Afterwards, they will eat them where they stand, taking chunks out their still living prey one at a time until nothing is left. Olqoswoids specifically absorb the salts and minerals that have perlocated in the Lenopan's bodies and will dipose the rest out in their droppings, which are loaded with nutrients and thus lead to a healthier environment at the expense of the Lenopans.
During the mating season, female Olqoswoids develop larger, more colorful, and more exravagant plumage on their heads, which they rub with musk produced by a gland under their chin with their trunk in order to attract a harem of males. Once mating has occured, the female will select a single male Olqoswoid to be her parental partner, a position that the males heavily fight for. After one has been selected, the two of them will go on a hunting spree and gather the remains of as many Lenopan as possible into a pit they've dug out far inland, away from the finical tides of the swamps, and deposit some of the water they've absorbed to create a thick, muddy slurry. The female then lays up to three dozen eggs in this mixture and the two Olqoswoids watch over and defend the nest until they hatch. During incubation, the eggs absorb the necessary salts and minerals from the mixture in order to grow, with some eggs inevitably absorbing more than others and leaving some eggs to never hatch.
Bahktreen Olqoswoids have a symbiotic relationship with an aerial, slug-like species called Selenogroomers, which regularly comb the animal's thick, coarse fur for parasites to eat. In return, Olqoswoids carry the Selenogroomers from place to place, allowing them to cover a much wider range, and let them lay their own eggs in their nests during the mating season, which they fiercely protect. Lenopans have come to see Selenogroomers as an omen of death and destruction, as it is assumed that wherever they are, an Olqoswoid can't be too far behind. In fact, to be called a Selenogroomer is seen as being referred to as a traitor and is considered to be a grave insult.
Efforts to cull and eventually exterminate Olqoswoids by the Lenopans have ultimately proven to be fruitless. Attempts to mimic the appearance and smell of a female Olqoswoid in order to attract and destroy as many males as possible and thus manage their numbers have failed, mostly due to the fact that while Lenopans are skillful in assuming the appearance of different creatures and objects, they are terrible actors by nature. Even Olqoswoids can tell the difference between a real Olqoswoid and a Lenopan pretending to be one, which unfortunately usually results in the unfortunate Lenopan's demise.
