Description
A friend asked me how to make an Anbu vest for cosplay, so I made a tutorial for everyone. This is my first tutorial so all suggestions are greatly appreciated. It's kinda big, sorry 'bout that. Oh and I didn't have any in-progress pics of the vest I made, so I drew 'diagrams' instead. If you have any questions, feel free to note me or email me at c.ramjam@gmail.com. ^_^Note: This is by no means the best way to make this, it's just how I made mine.
Here are some examples of how other people's vests have turned out after using this tutorial

This will be very helpful, though more pictures would be nice. And you wouldn't happen to have an advice on the armguards by any chance?

Ya, I made the vest first and then made the tutorial afterwards, sry 'bout that. As for the armguards, I used thick non-corrugated cardboard, spray painted it white, cut out the shape and bent them to fit the curvature of my arms. I then attached the straps which were made of the same material (and also painted white). I had also fixed some metal snaps to the end for closure. That's what I did for my 2nd set, for my 1st set, I used white craft foam which held up for the one night (Halloween) but by the end they had ripped and were beaten up pretty badly, which is why I had to make a more durable second pair. If you're just using them for a short while though (and aren't as careless as me -_-) then craft foam should be ok.

My knowledge of Sailor Moon is very limited - I haven't seen the show in about 12 years - but if you post at the cosplay.com forums, I'm sure you can get all the help you need. If anyone knows anything about sailor moon cosplay, it has to be these people -> [link] I know what it's like to make costumes for others, just make sure you give yourself enough time and try to get them to help as much as possible. Good luck with all your costumes ^_^

do you HAVE to use quilt batting?

nope, you could use stuffing (just stuff it evenly so there are no bumps) or you could use multiple layer of felt or other stiff fabric to get a similar effect.

This is cool!!! But I have a question; what's 'batting'? I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to clothing terminology...

batting (quilt batting) is like stuffing that's been woven into sheets. It's used in quilts and furniture. that's the best way I can describe it XD You can usually find it on a huge roll at walmart or fabric stores.
