Description
EVERYBODY WAS DOING IT. I wanted to distract myself from work for a bit. You might get two DD pages today, depending.NOW FOR EXPLANATIONS OR SOME SHIT:
1. DISNEY, primarily Glen Keane.
Probably pretty obvious a choice and an influence, as Disney is the reason I wanted to be an artist anyway. Glen Keane is just bloody brilliant, and he's been my art hero for ages already, and probably for ages to come. They have a finger in most of my artist pies, I think. Understanding of movement, pose, character design, etc...
2. BRUCE TIMM
Also probably obvious. Grew up with his cartoons all my life. He has a pretty big stylistic influence, I'd say.
3. TEALIN
Best known for her Harry Potter and Discworld art, she actually got me to care more about character variation when I was really in denial about that particular fault in my art. She's still havin an influence.
4. THE BEATLES
I listen to them way too much. Inspired by their music, and their films, and their personalities, and the sort of legendary aura that they've built up around themselves. Love that feeling of optimism and longevity. Makes me wanna drawr.
5. ALPHONSE MUCHA
I LOVE MUCHA. Inspired me...compositionally? How do you put that? XD Something like that.
6. STUDIO GHIBLI
Not just Hayao, but the rest of the studio too. In my stories and their atmosphere, and the detailed work they put into the environments and the details of the characters and and and... So yeah, I might never be able to achieve that level of prettiness, but I sure as heck will keep popping in Ghibli movies for inspiration when I draw.
7. GORILLAZ, art and music
The music is great, the characters are great, the art is great, that's all I gotta say. Jamie Hewlett in general, I think has influenced me a lot, though I don't know how well you'd be able to see it in my art. Composition, Posing, a bit of the art style.
8. TRACY BUTLER
Duh? In posing, "cartoon acting," and a further awareness in detail work and environment. When I finally hunkered down and looked at her art and comics a year or two back, I had a mini-revelation: "GET BETTER, YOU ARSE." So here I am, trying to get better. Thanks.
9. CHAMBA
Coloring, compositions, dynamicism... eeee, I love this guy. Don't know if I can say anything past that.
10. NORMAN ROCKWELL
Guaranteed to make me want to draw. Influenced, once more, compositionally. In my opinion, Mr. Rockwell was a genius in setting and presenting a scene in illustration. Been trying it myself.
11. MAKANI
BIG influence on my current style, a bit of my humor, and a couple other things I guess. She gave me my "draw better" revelation when I was 15. I can dig it.
12. BEN CALDWELL
Probably my biggest influence, second only to Disney, I think. Character design, art style, anatomy, etc etc etc. I got obsessed with this guy sometime in high school, I think. He helped me move past the rut of shitty "I have no idea what I'm drawing but I'll pretend that I do" anime. He taught me the concept of simple base shapes and figure further characterized by detail, and he also finally got me to fully embrace the topic of construction first.
SOOOOO NOT MY ONLY INFLUENCES, but they were the only ones I could think of.
...I just thought of Chuck jones right now. ARGH. HIM TOO. AND AKIRA TORIYAMA.
AND BRET HELQUIST.
DAMMIT.

Bruce Timm, that must be his name... I never knew it before, but yeah. I traced a lot of his Batman comics growing up, cause his stuff looked SO COOL.
(If I'm thinking of the right dude. Google time...)
