Judging on how sand sharks hunt they probably hunt by sensing vibrations and smell. Dire badgers hunt in packs to bring down large prey

A lot of Avatar's critters were just silly (my only point of contention with the show, actually) but the catgators were among the most believable. Good thing you've improved on them. XD
