Ok now some people have asked me how I make some of my orbs in interfaces in photoshop. The answer I give them is "I don't use photoshop, I use illustrator" after some disbelief I prove to them that stuff can be made in illustrator very very well.

Anyway this is just a tutorial that will take you through making a simple orb in illustrator, this is handy because you can later import the orb as a smart obect in photoshop to which you can scale and distort to your hearts content without destroying it (or if you are like me you'll keep it in illustrator and design most of your stuff in there )
