I have been planning to do a custom Rom heroclix sculpt for a while now. I suffered a slight brain injury a couple of years back and I haven't been able to do complete art much, if any, since then. Drawings come way more slowly now, and the custom heroclix I used to do so much of, has dwindled down to not being able to complete any since the injury. So, if I ever do complete the Rom mod, I'll be sure to post it

man, sorry to hear about your injury. could be worse at least you didn't end up like ROM's writer Bill Mantlo that situation is so tragic. if it's any comfort to you someone already made a pretty much perfect Rom custom Heroclix figure romspaceknightart.blogspot.com…

I know he´s based on the Swamp Thing but the few stories i read on him were alright. The important thing is that he was active on the time Rom was on Earth, so this meeting is possible

Actually, his first appearance pre-dates the first appearance of Swamp Thing by two months('71) in Savage Tales #1. Man-Thing's second appearance was slated for release in Savage Tales #2(but was bumped into a later published magazine called Astonishing Tales #12) and this was written by none other than Len Wein- the same man who created/wrote The Swamp Thing. So, Weins story of the Man-Thing was probably written at the same time he was creating/writing his introduction of the Swamp Thing. That's too close to call either way, in my opinion. They both probably were based on earlier "swamp-dudes". I know Marvel(atlas at the time) had some of these types in Adult Fantasy, Strange Tales and other early(40's 50's) Atlas titles, and Solomon Grundy from DC was a very early(mid 40's) villain that rose from the swamps. But there was a villain in Airboy that was recurring called the Heap. He predates both('42) of these characters by 30 years.

thank you for the detailed info.  Indeed, if we dig, we tend to find the naked truth of hero origins.  I just recently discovered there was a "Thor" comics in the 40´s, in which Thor flied with his hammer, summoned lightning, crashed war planes and everything. Same thing with an earlier "Iron Man". Scary stuff.

Yeah, many times it's not that easy to be completely original, especially in this age. As long as creators put their own original "spin" to it, I'm usually fine with it, as far as comics and such are concerned.

I love me some swamp-creature-dudes too! The only reason I knew most of that stuff was because when I was much younger, I really wanted to know which came first, lol. I just recently found out about the Len Wein thing though. I thought it was very interesting that he could be creating two very distinctive characters of such similar genres, for two very competitive companies, at the same time, yet pull off two mostly different "heroes". Although the origins are similar in a shady way.

Yeah, I was pretty stoked. Except for the part of it having to be a whole new separate-from-Marvel-Rom book. Still, hopefully it will seriously kick butt. I'm really wondering what it will be like. I think Marvel even owns the Dire Wraiths, so........

You're welcome!

I only wish people of my generation knew of some of these characters like the Micronauts, ROM, Shogun Warriors and the like.

Speaking of old Marvel properties, here's this stirlz.deviantart.com/art/Godz…

people who were born well after the 80s can never truly appreciate what made the 80s special as some one growing up during that decade. but then again people who grew up during the sixties say that about my generation : )

Now I think my generation thinks that about the current television shows instead of the ones we grew up watching which to me the years 2004-2007 were the last great generations of cartoons I grew up with and now most cartoons suck these days So I hear you

in the case of Marvel they've cranked out nothing but unwatchable kiddie friendly crap for the last 25 years. but DC has had some hits in that time such as the Paul Dini Batman cartoon and later Justice League Unlimited and more recently with Young Justice.

that is the dream, but I've long since given up all hope that marvel and Hasbro will ever get their shit together and hammer out a deal. instead of a cool action figure Hasbro gave us a some stupid ROM heromugg doll and marvel keeps fucking up the ROM continuity more and more. same goes for marvel trying to do more stories with the Micronauts characters they own. i'm afraid new fan art that's cool is about as good as it gets for ROM, Micronauts and Shogun Warrior fans. on the Shogun Warriors front Herbe Trimpe will be at the BIG WOW Comic Fest in San Jose CA. later this month which I went to in the past couple years. you should have a look at this romspaceknightart.blogspot.com…

Well at least if Marvel and Hasbro worked together for once, they could make a Micronauts continuation of some sort

Hasbro owns the rights to ROM, i'm not sure who owns the rights to the Micronauts these days but honestly I don't we're going to ever see knew books for either titles.

Mrtrainfreak12 In reply to csuhsux [2015-04-05 20:39:30 +0000 UTC]

Well hasbro made a comic featuring some of their older properties as a means of rebooting them, along with some old properties they recently acquired, one of them was Micronauts. That and their buisiness partner, Takara made the toyline that Micronauts is based on, Microman

we'll indeed it would seem Hasbro does own The Micronauts although i'm not sure how that came about unless they bought Takara/Mego along with Parker Brothers. and what have they done with those rights since then? nothing it would seem as far as comics go well it looks like you've given me yet another reason to hate Hasbro and never buy their shit again just like I already do with new  comics for marvel.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mrtrainfreak12 In reply to csuhsux [2015-04-05 21:53:43 +0000 UTC]

Well the thing is as for Micronauts was because of the 2002 line of Micronaut toys. While hyped up, protests at the factory they were made along with sabatoges of the molds for the toys lead to only three lines being made (series 1, 1.5 and series 2) and the second one as good as it was and reintroduced fanfavorite characters, wasn't enough to save the line and stores refused to buy them at all. So I fear even though I honestly can tell Hasbro does want to revive it, most stores probably will refuse to stock them due to the incident with the attempted 2002 revival tainting their views on the line

csuhsux In reply to Ottoenlotte [2015-04-04 18:21:32 +0000 UTC]

let me expand on my initial reply to your question. what you see up there which took me a bit over 3 hours to do would only represent a single panel in an entire comic book issue. plus on top of that I would also have to focus on page lay out too. as we all know most any monthly comic has a collaboration of people (writer, penciler, inker, colorist, editor). when it comes to the artist in particular it's not just about being a talented illustrator it's also about speed. at one point in Sal Buscema's career he was cranking out 4 issues a month as a penciler!

Ever heard of graphic novels? Some work years on those.

csuhsux In reply to Ottoenlotte [2015-04-08 03:16:42 +0000 UTC]

yeah, by professionals who get paid to write and illustrate those graphic novels for a living. and all things being equal they can do it a lot faster then i can an average professional pencilar gets between 2 - 3 pages done for an 8 hour work day. at best it would take me about that same amount of time to get just 3 panels done. but let me know when you win the lottery cus if you want to give me enough of a kick back i'll quite my day job which keeps me busy about 9 hours a day minus commute time. i'll be happy to get that self published comic title goin for ya.
