I've always wondered if the hardcore thief-fangirls are jealous at Viktoria because she is the master of sexual tension, dancing around in the nude all the time in front of Garrett...

I'm a girl, I love Garrett and I do love Viktoria as well. She may be viewed as the villain but she is an amazing character nonetheless...

There are amazing villains too. Karras is one of them. Characters don't need to be good people in order to be good characters.

Very true.. gotta love ol' Karras, his lisp, his voice and his insane ramblings. Garrett himself Β is far from being a hero and is a very well written character too. Damnit Thief has great characterization there, even the guards have personalities.

I don't like her at all, but that is, because I started with DS and didn't like the pagans in general. XD And wth do we really need another nude girl in a game? But on the other hand, she is made of wood. Not really a material one would want to cuddle...

I've always sympathized more with the pagans because they're believeing in stuff that actually exists as was proven in TDP, unlike the Hammerites that are merely attributing their technological advancements to a nonexistant god.
I can give 1 positive aspect of Viktoria you can agree with. without her, Garrett wouldn't have that cool mech-eye. (And the scar too but I don't like it because it was introduced in TDS)
And I guess the last thing an obsessed fangirl needs is a chick in the game that's constantly naked and hanging out with Garrett.

NOnexistant? I wouldn't say that. In the end they also got magic power. I don't think this comes from nothing.
Ah well, she exploded and the world is fine again. xD Somehow there is no room for chicks in the Thief-world. They are all crazy (Marla xD).

So does the Trickster and Viktoria and the Necromancers. Even the Mechanists had magic even though their beliefs were blasphemous compared to Hammerites. I believe that the magic in the world is universal and everyone that learns to use it, uses the same magic and just uses it differently.
In TDP the Hammerite blessing magic came from moonlight, since there was "the lunar pool" on top of a tower where Garrett needed to bless the Hammerite holy symbol. And he was able to do it even though he firmly believes that the Hammerites are lunatics. So it has nothing to do with faith. It's just magic. Just like gravity in our universe is a constant force, magic in the Thief universe is the same, and anyone can learn how it works.
There is no "good" or "bad" magic. The necromancers' dead-raising magic is simply an opposite magic to the Hammerites' "good" magic. (No the pagans do not raise the dead. It was a simple continuity error in TDS.)

Interesting points, but we don't know whether the Builder was real or not, do we? You were taking that assumption based on our world's religions.

The assumption that the builder never existed and there is just magic.

I assume that a god doesn't exist until there's proof. That's atheistic agnosticism, whereas assuming that a god could exist while waiting proof to support that belief is theistic agnosticism. You are the latter, I'm the former.
Unless you're neither... but then I will stop arguing with you because no-one can reason with religious people.

Dude, we are talking about a VIDEO GAME. I'm not talking about real religion. You assumed that the builder didn't exist based on real life, when this is a video game. He could have very well existed in the realm of the game. Unless you read a text in the game, or LGS themselves stated "the builder never existed," what I said is still valid regardless of your beliefs or mine.
About what you said:
I have doubted that a god exists, but the way I see it is that there is no "heaven" or "hell." The god I think of is non physical. I'd rather believe that something exists than to not because believing that things just popped out of no where doesn't sit with me.
In any case, I'm more open minded than others, not all people who are in religion are not able to be reasoned with. However, I know what you're getting at.

Dude, we are talking about an awesome and very original video game. Not all fantasy-medieval games need to have the same structure. Thief is an intelligent game with original ideas, and in a setting like Thief I can't think of many things more original than one of the main factions in a game, which are percieved as religious lunatics... being actual religious lunatics. Just because it's a fantasy world with supernatural attributes... sure it does mean that a world like that can have "a god" of some sort, but it doesn't need to have it. A magical fantasy world with a phoney god is a much more interesting concept in a story than a magical fantasy world with an actual fantastic god-figure.
I've always viewed the Thief-universe as one of the most original fictional worlds, and I want to believe that everything in that world is somehow original and different compared to any and all fiction. That's why I think it would be nicer for the Builder to be exactly what Allah is. Bullshit.
I can understand your point. A complete 100% agnostic doesn't exist. You're either slighly on the godless, or on the godful side. I'm on the godless side and you're on the godful side and I'm not claiming superiority for either one of them, because it's simply a way of thinking, one that one is not to choose for one self.
If your whole life you'd just be sitting still, unable to witness any change around yourself, so that you wouldn't actually witness anything being created and you couldn't build or create anything yourself, would you still assume that everything around you hasn't simply been there forever? No, you wouldn't. Creation of anything is fiction, a human concept. Something abstract and impossible that the human imagination has cooked up. Nothing can be created nor destroyed, just changed. -This is the reason why my way of thinking leans slightly to the atheistic version of agnosticism. I can imagine something without a beginning or an end.

That's fine, and if you choose to see it that way so be it. I was just simply stating that Looking Glass didn't tell us whether the builder was a figment of their imaginations, or whether he really did exist within the thief world in the past. (Unless I am missing something. Jason[from TTLG] could probably help me on this one.) However, since the game has a religious group in it, they must have looked at real religion and therefore I could see how The Builder could be considered "bullshit" as you put it.
"Nothing can be created nor destroyed, just changed."
If you use this in the context of science, I can accept it. (i.e., matter) If you use it in the general sense of anything, I don't agree. Is not building a building a creation? That building didn't exist before the human built it now did it? It was CREATED.
