You're certainly welcome! If you have specific questions, I may be able to assist.

Best tip I have: LABEL EVERYTHING on both sides! See the letters on the individual fingerplates? It saves massive headaches when your cats decide to start knocking things to the floor.

Good luck!

Did you use craft foam for every piece? O: What was the polystyrene used for?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CT02 In reply to SakiRee [2010-10-10 20:13:07 +0000 UTC]

The polystyrene is a plastic, used to reinforce the craft foam. This of it like a sandwich: craft foam, polystyrene, vinyl.

The fingerplates are just polystyrene and vinyl. Craft foam would make them too bulky.

im going to attempt to make automail for a cosplay i have coming up
and i was wondering how you went about attaching the foam to the hand of the glove
you said hot glue under equipment, but what im wondering is how you kept that from seeping through the glove and messing everything up?

CT02 In reply to Emmerson-echo [2010-08-23 12:05:25 +0000 UTC]

The hand was built separately from the glove. They're not permanently attached to one another.

When I put on the costume, I pull the hand on over the glove, like a suit of armor. The finger pieces are held together with a strip of black elastic.

I glued a small piece of velcro inside each finger tip to keep them in place during wear.

Hope that helps. Amethyst Angel's tutorial has pictures [link]

O: Craft foam is a good idea! I plan on making this soon, too. :3 Was it difficult? o:

CT02 In reply to SakiRee [2010-08-06 01:45:37 +0000 UTC]

It took awhile, but wasn't too difficult because I was working from a tutorial. The leg required MUCH more time, since I didn't have a pattern to work from. Phew!

I love craft foam. Good luck with your project!

But you're probably one of the first ever to actually make the leg! It looks so precise, too. Awesome job!
And thanks! ^.^ I'll try my best.
