Description
One of the never-realized films of the immortal Edward D. Wood,Jr.,"The Ghoul Goes West"---meaning it never really made it past the initial idea---was to have been a combination western and horror movie, with Wood's pal Bela Lugosi in the lead, with Gene Autry as a possible co-star.Had it been made, the poster may have looked like this.

I know, right? Pity Autry wasn't in a more open frame of mind then.

Totally, besides i think there are not Western-Horror movies yet, it might be a bit revolutionary

I wonder if Mr Wood actually did write the script.

Maybe it could be in the style of Wood and also in keeping with his legacy. Also, it's similar to the Headless Horseman myth.

Well, they really didn't make zombie movies in the 1950s....that is,what the word zombie has come to mean since the original Night Of The Living Dead.

That would've been a great Western cult film. I wonder if there is a chance it could be made today.

Only if there's some really clever and determined independent filmmaker out there who thinking along these lines.

I have a knowledge about the classic westerns from the 1940s - mid 1970s.

To be honest, I would like it if somebody picked this up and made it. I imagine Ed Wood would be happy to see one of his unrealized projects get made at last if he were alive.

Only if the filmmaker remained true,at the very least,to the spirit of Wood.

The problem is Ed wasn't TRYING to make bad movies. Sometimes you just can't produce the magic when you are intentionally trying to produce the magic.

I've seen...as far as I know...everything Wood made, and with the exception of his ill-fated excursions into 70's porno, none of his films are unwatchable...an adjective I've used a lot with many of the Hollywood films I've seen made during my lifetime.
Wood's movies are entertaining, just not in the way he most likely intended.

Oh, films like "Robot Monster" and "The Creeping Terror" are far worse. I have to agree with you on that. Ed didn't have two things that prevented him being "bigger". He didn't have somebody to reign in most of his nuttier ideas at times and he didn't have the dominoes fall the right way.

Great idea! I like the approach you took. Ed had so many unrealized projects, it's kind of fun to go through them and imagine what it would look like. There's a couple of short stories of his that I've toyed with turning into a comic...

Thanks...I studied the posters for Glen Or Glenda,Bride Of The Monster and Plan 9 to get the right look for it;the credits are of people who were involved with Ed,and from popular stories about who he envisioned in this film.
As for his short stories...if they're good stories(and when you consider that guy's imagination),DO them!

When I first saw your poster, it kind of looked to me like it would work for a GHOUL GOES WEST musical, for some reason! It has a strong graphic design element to it. Plus how awesome would an Ed Wood musical be?
Oh, and I really dig your 'Dead & Buried' Wacky Packages piece! Too funny! And man, what an era that was collecting them Wacky Packages back in the day.... sigh...
