Aura Energy is everywhere, diluted, but present in all corners of the universe. On its own, it can't be harnessed, too weak to do anything but influence us over tens of thousands of years...

But the crystals my creators found - they have the power to absorb that energy. Store it, compress it, hold it in a way that makes it able to be used. They say that the emotions of living things are capable of influencing the properties of Aura, but that's not something they were ever able to fully understand.

SHINING SONIC

Shining Sonic is a Super Form accessed via mass focusing of Aura Energy, only achievable when certain conditions are met involving a way to focus Aura into a single point as well as the emotional resonance to amplify it's positive charge in tandem. Sonic now has Aura running through him like a perpetual motion machine, siphoning and multiplying the energy around him to fuel his crystalline attacks - the means by which Aura Energy is made physically manifest.

When Doctor Eggman's Hyper Eggrobo mk.II was destroyed, everyone was shocked to see a smaller, more powerful machine buried inside as it's heart - the Aura Armour. Denser and powered by the raw Aura Energy siphoned into Eggman's giant Aura Crystal, this weapon was specifically designed as a counter to the legendary Super Sonic by attempting to match his speed and power, combined with the adaptable ability to create hard-light constructs to use as weapons against him. Most terrifyingly, the Aura Armour even posesses the time-warping abilities Sonic had been using for his whole adventure up until now, but with the intervention of the allies he made along the way, Sonic was able to use the crystal embedded in his bracelet and the combined efforts of everyone present to transform into Shining Sonic; Eggman would meet his match, the two eternal rivals twisting time itself to clash at full force in the skies of the Angel Realm.

Trivia:
- The idea for Shining Sonic (or at least his name) came about partially as a joke. When the story was initially being concepted as being analogous to a third Storybook title, how Sonic would enact the tradition of gaining a new form to use at the end of the story came up; 'Shiny Smily Sonic' was thrown out for a laugh, but actually ended up being streamlined into the form's final name of 'Shining Sonic'.

- The comparison for Shining Sonic's wings appearing as a 'flourish' for his larger attacks was inspired by Rock Howard of the Fatal Fury/King of Fighters series.
