Thinking of feeding the birds recently with the bad weather i thought about this little tutorial I started making a while back.I was stuck at home for a few months after tearing ligament and muscle in my leg, I still wanted to shoot and had seen people do similar things to this, nice just to see the birds up close if sited well.
Not an original idea but one worth sharing.
Suet or lard can be used to bind the seed, I prefer suet as it is not so greasy as lard.
^wynnesome points out that small ready made logs can be bought with suet plugs that fit the pre-drilled holes.

Suet is normally animal fat, although you can get a vegetarian suet, very high saturated fat ideal for keep birds warm in cold weather.

You can buy suet or lard in the supermarket here in the UK, I would try pet stores in the USA and if you have a local Butcher you can try them.
I know some friends in the USA who make their own fat balls from suet so must be able to source it ok.

lol, no not my secret, I have only done this a couple of times, I slipped at tore some muscle and ligament off my leg bone, hurt like hell and I could not walk for awhile, after a couple of weeks I could hobble outside to the shed and made a log up, my Wife dug the hole and planted it for me Bless Her
