Description
Ultramarines 3rd Company Command Squad.All of the models in this squad have been converted one way or another, using a multitude of parts from the existing plastic kits as well as forge world parts etc.

With the blue shade, i used a regal blue/necron blue/black base, regal blue colour and regal blue and ultramarines blue highlight.. no seal or varnish

is there a specific ratio 2 the regal necron black base or is it just 1:1:1? did u or would u use any washes ? and did u use white, black or no primer?

Looks good, I especially appreciate the hand painting on the banner. I see a lot of old and Forgeworld parts, like the Mk. III helmet and the Apothecary's backpack - I have one of those in my old Marine army, from years and years ago.

Thanks!! the Mk.III helmet is actually the helmet from the black templars sprue, and the backpack is the one from the space marine command sprue.

cheers hey, i did think about the 2nd company but after the release of the new codex nearly every person new to the game would probably have second company ultramarines.
i did play with the idea of doing a 4th company with Uriel Ventris, Lysander and Lecharius as well, (might still do it

the amount of detail is stunning and every mini has it's own individual heroic style, a dream command squad for every ultramarine collector...i really like the white cloak and rope on the AOBR commander and the spartan looking mini on the total right is also kickass, the freehand on the standart is mind-blowing too...man i love it in every way

The finest Ultramarine squad I have ever seen, a welcome break from the crudely painted, poorly glued, mold line ridden works that are all too common.

The darker shade of blue, the kind Crimson Fists have, looks oh so much better than the normal Ultramarines smurf colours. The standard bearer and sergant would probabbly have to be my favourates, but to be honest, i'm surprised you didnt convert the commander any more than a simple arm-swap and skull probe. I also like how you snuck in Sicarius's helmet.

Cheers, that effect was not entirly intentional, the new pots of Regal Blue paints from games workshop are less rich in the blue colour than past pots of paint, the mix is using current regal blue with mixes or enchanted blue and ultramarines blue to get a close enough colour to the past Regal Blue "sigh"

They are? No idea why.. maybe cost-cutting or something has affected the colour? Actually, do you have an old and new pot of regal blue around to compare the colours, i'd like to see this.

I'm thinking of getting the Marneus Calgar command squad sometime soon since I now have (more than) enough money. Any tips on gluing/painting the beastie?

well the best way is to use a all purpose superglue as well as "pinning" the joins of that beastie.
I find using black undercoat good and following the "how to paint spacemarines" as a good starting point, as for the ultramarines i have managed to perfect the mixes to a level where i recognise the right colours.

Awesome paint job, I think that marine commander from Black Reach is the best one yet. There are other but they ruined by having the ultramarine logo all over them.
