Okay, this has been asked to me couple of times. I guess I need to update this trick in my custom box tips and tricks blog.
Well, it is easy to increase the width by "pushing" it. Just insert an image inside your box at the very beginning and just make sure that the image's width is larger than the box and the box should expand.
TIP: Use a transparent image of 1 or 2 px height.
