To be frank, if you're not using the console, your pictures will always be average at best. Especially when using Ponies, since they practically radiate with bloom. Alternatively, use a completely dark map (the dark room in gm_construct or gm_flatdark). Though there you'd have to light EVERYTHING, and build your own scene.

Welp, a very good job kamerad. But tbh, everyone with their own style, except the ones who are not skilled should learn something from others like us time by time.

Doesn't using the steam overlay screenshot function work the same as the devshots thing?

Then why pray tell, does it keep leaving TGA files in my garrysmod/garrysmod/screenshots folder?
Also, TGAs don't upload right, I had to re-save them as PNGs.
See this? mattwo.deviantart.com/art/askeβ¦
That was done with the steam overlay screenshot, then I saved it as PNG. All three of my most recent ones were like that but that one came out the best.

Well, TGA files are of very high quality, but they take a lot more space. The solution is to save them, post-editing in Photoshop, as PNG or JPG quality 12.
There is a problem with Gmod, or Steam for that matter, in that the JPGs they save is of low quality, even with jpeg_quality 100. With this method, however, you barely lose quality when making the switch to JPG.

All that really matters is that I found a easier way to export TGA files.
Also, jpgs are supposedly lower quality than pngs but for the life of me, I have never been able to see the difference...

Well, is something like this: www.between-worlds.com/tutoriaβ¦
JPG saves space by compressing the image. PNGs don't compress the pixels, and thus they don't lose quality.

So apparently it does save as both. Yes you need to export them as png to upload them.

Scene and lighting seem good, maybe increase the lighting from the front a bit.
But the rimlighting needs work. As I said some other time, my tutorial isn't the best. I just cover generally every topic in there, but not with much detail.
Here's a very good tutorial on lighting superninjanub.deviantart.com/aβ¦
Posing is very nice though (maybe try some ear posing?)

so its good to keep bloom on? and also bindx devshots_screenshots? I thought you can just takes screenshots with right click when switch to camera mode?
π: 0 β©: 1
d0ntst0pme In reply to REDBLUTEAM [2013-09-11 08:56:02 +0000 UTC]
You can, but that'd save the image is a .jpg and ruin the quality. And tbh, it'd be better to deactivate bloom for posing. what you see here is just an extreme example.

I always turn down the bloom when I come in a map.
But this tuto show approximately what I do for making picture.
For editing, I open the picture directly with paint.net, cut some part I don't want and open it in Gimp.
but for the screenshot, I use the regular touch. "Take screenshot" with the super DOF (yeah, JPEG and not TGA)

d0ntst0pme In reply to Commodor-Richter [2013-09-10 20:46:57 +0000 UTC]
I also turn down the bloom, but this is what all newbies see when they enter, so I thought it a good idea to keep it on. Something they can relate to and stuff.
